Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It may sound as Fool's Day news, but it's true. Apple Finally Patents the Round-Cornered Rectangle device:

You can say it's just this stupid Americans, but they are (unfortunately) biggest and most important market for mobile devices, and this means problem for us all.

Hi-fcukin-unliky to mean a problem for me. I no longer produce Round-cornered Rectangle device thingies. No longer nor ever. So, what's the big deal? I also don't like Apple. Bring on the trouble.

That's bullshít. Shouldn't be able to put a patent on shapes. In that case, I'm gonna patent the humble triangle.

How the hell could someone patent such a generic shape. I can think of hundreds of things shaped just like an iPad that existed before an iPad was even thought of.

Idiots. You can't patent a simple shape. It's not like a rectangle can be used as a tool where specific geometry for a screw thread might.

Well - of course if you don't have any phone/tablet/laptop and don't intent to have one in the future it doesn't mean problem for you.

There is this crazy American logic to kick ass of everyone just in case it can make profit in the future. I am sure that everyday at least one yankee is trying to patent the wheel. In USA of course.

Whilst I'm sure they have their patent and are happy with it, I'd be certain that if they ever actually brought anyone to court (say Samsung, for example) they'd be laughed out of the building and their patent be ruled invalid.

How would this be a problem outside US?
If this is ever used it would crumble under the pressure

Samsung have just overtaken apple as the maker of the best selling smartphone. Android is outselling ipads. Apples shareprice is taking a huge dump and their precious leader is not around to mindfcuk the world into believing that Apple are still the dominant player as he is currently being told by a Creator even more powerful than himself, just exactly who really owns the patent to Apple, apples, rectangles and anything else he cares to mention. Soon enough, the only thing Apple will be able to flog, are the stupid accessories for their overpriced crap.

I wonder if it can be used to hold up another companies sales though. I doubt they'd do it if it wasn't going to have some use down the road. A small company developing something new and clever doesn't necessarily have the legal department or the money to throw away to fight dumb, but expensive battles. With other large tech names it might just serve as a delaying tactic.

Would this not somehow conflict with some sort of U.S. law that would put Childrens safety first?
Tablets might not be targetted at children, but if manufacturers have no choice but to put sharp edges on them, as opposed to rounding them, first kid that gets injured (In America), Sues, as it's standard coming of age stuff over there, who gets the blame? The Parents won't, even if they throw it at the Kid, So the Tablet Manufacturers, unless they make some sort of hexagonal corner.. ? Ah, America..

I don't think they are pantenting that shape... like this guy writes...
Maybe I'm wrong here, but this looks like a lot less than patententing a rectangle with rounded corners and more about a patent for a _device_ with rounded corners, a non-flat back, vent holes, a home button, etc. Without a patent like this, what's to prevent a company from making an exact copy of the iPad?

Definitely time the US Patent Office copped on, and stopped accepting this crap from Apple. Idiots

How is this a unique shape? Laptops have always done this as well as many electronics? It's just a safer shape in general to not have a pointed edge?
