Any horror stories? Got an injury and looks like playing senior football could be at an end :( Guy came in 2 feet while I was sprinting through on goal, had him for pace but he caught me, the sorest pain I've ever endured, didn't even apologize!

Been playing football at a high enough level for 12 years now and still haven't missed a game through injury. *touch wood*

Completely ballsed up the tendons in my baby finger last year, it's screwed now as I can't open it fully. Opens just enough to catch the ball though :D

Lucky :) Does it not affect you keeping no?

I'm so upset, the injury was similar to Ramseys, I was loving playing lately, now I'm gonna lose my main strength, pace!

    Ruptured ACL, fun times.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,296 ✭✭✭EdenHazard

I did about 10 rolls afterwards, i ended up near the sideline :D How you rupture them man and what was your recovery time?

Tomorrow I find out the full extent of the injury. Doctor said it was like a car crash tackle such was the extent of the collission. I never thought it was possible that you can get an actual injury that stops you from playing altogether, I just thought it meant you couldn't play at the top.

At best it will be a long road back!

I wasn't even playing proper football, just kicking my dad's slipper about, but I missed, kicked the table and fractured my toe.

    is your leg broken?

I've broken my fibula, dislocated my kneecap and also needed 26 stitches after my leg was sliced open after a tackle.

Not really, it can lock up in the cold, which has been happening the past few night games we play, but I can just crack it out. I should really get it fixed but it's not bothering me so I just keep going.

I fractured my cheekbone and two of my fingers playing Gaa. No bad injuries playing football and hopefully it'll stay that way

Fractured jaw (clash of heads). Horrendous, 6 years later and I still can't stand the sight of soup.

Snapped arm in half at the forearm after a fall in a game. Bent at near 45deg angle.

Operated on and both bones now held together by plates and load of pins. Was very worried coming back after that injury but mostly out of my head now.

Dislocated jaw after my own player kicked me in face by accident ! And a few weeks ago broke my wrist after being shoulderd into sideline in which I fell into a steel railing.

I lost my head when I was clean through on goal

    Dislocated Kneecap.

Worst I got playing football was a sprained wrist.

Dislocate my shoulder twice, once playing GAA and once playing basketball

Tore muscles attaching my big toe to my foot back in March. Never experienced pain like it although it came on gradually over a couple of days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,729 ✭✭✭Pride Fighter

Multiple sprains in my ankle and foot, 2 class 3 and 2 class 4 sprains or something to that effect.

It happened due to my own stupidity. A teammate of mine won a crunching tackle in the first minute and in order to lay down a marker, tried to do the same a minute later. Injured myself in essence flying into a tackle.

Worst part was we had no subs that day, so I had to play on. Scored a goal and everything.

Was a bad season for me, I could not afford medical treatment so I played on it before being diagnosed 3 months later, and still played on it when diagnosed.

My worst ever injury. A year of pain and hell on my foot/ankle.

I've learned from my mistakes anyway, that'll never happen again.

Broke my left arm and dislocated my shoulder in an Under 12 DDSL cup semifinal, played on for the last 12 minutes on instruction of my manager who said it was just a "knock".. Took almost 8 months to heal because I played on.

Playing at a decent level as a 16 year old, turned with the ball and my foot stuck in the turf as the rest of my body turned. Broke my knee cap in two and dislocated it, landed full body weight on my arm and shattered my elbow and upper arm into pieces and had to have it reset.

Been plagued by recurring knee injuries ever since

I took a kung-fu style kick to the hip- finished me in terms of being able to play field sports. Damaged a ligament that connects the femur to the hip, wasn't able to run for about 18 months without severe discomfort in my hip, a sharp jolting shock every time it took any sort of an impact. (The kung-fu kick was a genuine accident).

Worst I saw was a fella suffering a Henrik Larsson/Eduardo style leg break, he tried to take a shot as he has falling over but ended up kicking the ground and his shin just snapped as he fell over his foot planted in the ground. Half his shin was just dangling off him, it was awful. He was playing again 7 months later!

what a moron of a manager
he should be developing players at the age group
not forcing injured lads to play on so they can win the game

    Broken ankle.

Went up for a header, contact with the other player put me off balance, landed on my ankle sideways and heard the most sickening snap.

Used the time to play so much FIFA 07 that I qualified for the FIFA Interactive World Cup as I was about 15th in the top 100 in Europe :D

Broke my toe after kicking a kerb on the street instead of the ball.
It was pitch dark and I was extremely drunk. Didn't notice it until the following morning.

Never got injured in an actual game in over 15 years.

    Studs caught in the ground.

It was misdiagnosed as just strained ligaments by three different physios which meant I didn't know I'd done it for about four months. With the operation and doing rehab properly I missed 18 months. Back playing now though and if anything, it's all a lot stronger than it was before.

Btw, did you get kicked cause of your ghey boots and tights? :pac: ;)

Macerated my lateral meniscus of my right knee 4 and a half months ago. Never experienced pain like it! Couldn't sleep for a few days with the pain as the doctor didn't give me any meds. Got the MRI, and had surgery 2 months ago today. Surgeon said on the day it was in really bad shape and he wasn't sure about future play due to the severity of it, as he removed more than half of the meniscus and repaired a small portion too. Went back to him 3 weeks ago and he said I was making good progress and gave me a margin of 4 months to see how I am before I can do any sort of sports.

I had lost almost 4" of muscle mass from my thigh, but it's gradually getting back. Can be still sore on occasion but I'm getting there. Probably won't take any risks and will take at least another 6/7 months before any contact sports to be played!

Was playing in goals on a nice sunny day, just hanging about with friends kicking a ball

Was hanging on the goalposts when all of a sudden out of nowhere comes this football and hit's me in the balls.

Worse part was when I landed I fractured small part's of each leg,was a bad few months.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,575 ✭✭✭NTMK

broke my leg below the knee and tore every ligament with it. took nearly 4 months before i could walk on it again and effectively stopped me from playing outfield any more. even taking long goal kicks now can cause an injury :(

all from my studs getting stuck in the ground as i turned

Probably, a guy with earrings, snood, gloves, tights, its basically asking for hatchet man to kick you to bits! Being unraaaaaail also adds to it  (I joke)

Im using some of you guys as inspiration. 18 months man, fair play on the recovery!

Loose cartilage in my knee. It doesn't sound bad but knee had been feeling kinda weird for a while and was playing a game one Sunday morning and went in for a hard tackle and could feel my knee twist a little, like it normally would in a hard tackle, but then when I went to run I could feel these little pieces floating around crunching between the knee joint, the weirdest, worst feeling I've ever had playing football. 3 surgeon appointments later, and been told I probably wouldn't be able to play anywhere near as much as I was due to the amount of cartilage that needed to be removed, underwent keyhole surgery. Was out for nearly 6 months, came back too early and was out for another 2 months. That was 7 years ago and have barely missed 15 games, due to minor injury and non-availability, in the 7 years since.

Best of luck with the injury EdenHazard.

Tore Ligaments in me foot , made a huge crack as i went down which was heard from the other end of the pitch

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,296 ✭✭✭EdenHazard

Thanks man I realize my OP doesnt really give the full extent of injury. Imagine running through on goal, and a guy absolutely running as fast as he can runs in and jumps straight at your ankle with 2 feet, and your ankle bends completely perpindicular to the ground and then the opposite way, I basically shattered the ankle! Its the sort of tackle that happens at that level where there is no retribution in way of punishment, I believe the guy should have received a long ban for the tackle, he wasn't going for the ball!

Dived down at the feet of a fella playing in goals last season and got kicked in the hand. Tore ligaments in my ring finger on my right hand, can't open it properly. Did something to my AC joint on my shoulder as well when a fella decided to jump into it from a corner. Nothing too serious though

    In the following order:

1.)Displaced fracture to the right Tibia.

2.)Burst blood vessel on left temple lobe. Gash no bigger than small finger nail but rushed from pitch to A+E to stop the little squirter.

3.)two front teeth out through top lip.

    4.)dislocated elbow.

5.) usual tears and strains to ligaments and tendons.
Always had a dodgy groin which would always play up in the later part of the season as I got
    fitter.

Thorn hamstring when I was 16.

Most of the back of my leg was purple after a few hours. Went to physio the next day and got a few sessions, not cheap either, I was lucky it was one fo the last few games of the season so I had a few months to recover fully.

Nothing before or since it, luckily.

    That is pain

I was at a party once and a guy was boring me with his cruciate ligament injury story.
    On and on he went
The tackle, the pain, the hospital, the cast, the rehab.

I said that I broke a leg once
Did you? He said...and did it hurt??

    Not so much I replied
    It wasn't mine :)

    Conversation over :)

Nothing bad really, worst was the hamstring. Was like being shot in the back of the thigh, and for about a year afterwards was afraid to go all out at full pace for fear of it going again. Horrible feeling

I broke my leg as a young lad. Tibia and fibula both snapped completely. The pain was horrific. Six months it took before I could run again and I didnt feel comfortable playing for a few years If I'm honest.

As I was so young, it did kind of hinder my development so I ended up playing in goal for my club team and underage level. Worked out for the better though. I ended up a much better goalie than I probably ever would have made an outfielder. 12 out 16 penalty saves throughout my "career". The bane of strikers they used to call me.* :D

*May or may not be true.

    Under 17's, playing away.

Was on for my hatrick and a ball came over the top long that I got onto it,lobbed the keeper through on an open goal, then turned my ankle in a pothole just on the 18yrd box.

Tore all the ligaments in my ankle. Was out for 8 months, came back for end of season but kept suffering calf injuries, not sure if it was related.

Took a further 4 months off and came back for pre season, where my calf kept getting tight during games. SO after some deliberation and visits to specialists it was suggested that I pack it in which I duly did.

Came back last year to the senior setup for the first time, and after a succesfull pre season ( was scoring and assisting for fun and was chuffed I was back playing ) my calf muscle blew out in the final pre season game.

I came back in January and came on as a sub and within 10 minutes it was gone again.

Well and truly retired :) Definitely not one of those " I would have made it bar injury" cause I had my trials and callups when I was fit and fledging, just couldn't make the grade :)

Been humming and haughing a return as I've been playing five aside the last year without injury, and then four weeks ago got a two footed tackle on Astro on the same old ankle, and have only got off my crutch last week : /

Nothing too bad,got kicked in the face once. The prick that did it was a scumbag & a coward who suddenly moved to midfield to avoid me then ran out off the pitch at full time.He didn't even change out of his gear.
Got my revenge though,he got mouthy about it one night with his mates after closing time, strange how his 'mates' didn't back him up as I thumped the head off him.

Worst I saw was 2 lads going in for a 50/50,one of them stood up & you could hear the crack as his leg gave way.Turns out he broke it in 2 places.

I saw a guys achilles tendon snap once
It was hanging out the back of his sock with his foot just flopping around
    Not nice

A guy kicked me in the face while I was on the ground and smashed some teeth.
I wore a gumshield after that.
