Everyone has dreams of becoming millionaires after the leaving cert. It simply won't happen. People who are millionaires are ones who went and set up there own company regardless of what course they are doing and probably most of them didn't bother with college. No course will teach you how to set up a business and succeed at it, its all about knowing someone who has done it and can help you or learning it yourself. Does learning Chinese think you will stand out from crowd? Chinese is the most spoken language in the world and tons of Chinese business in Ireland and the rest of the world.
Basically with a business degree you are looking at 23k-26k starting off and then see where you progress. But this idea of becoming very wealthy just from doing a course is nonsense. Some people might progress in an organization, some mightn't, all depends on communication skills, leadership skills and presentation.

IT/Programming/Engineers are the highest paying jobs in Ireland and probably in the world at the moment as there is a shortage of them. Tons of people with business degrees who are unemployed.

Education is a vital tool and choosing the right path is vital. But remember it is only a part of the overall person, albeit a very important part. The most critical choice is to choose an area you love. “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
    ― Confucius

It is extremely rare to make millions as an employee, it is not unusual for those who choose to work for themselves doing something they are consumed by. Wanting to make millions is not a valid sustainable motivation, doing something great is. Wealth is a consequence of success not a reason for it. Happiness is the real nirvana, doing what you enjoy and reaping the rewards from whatever you can generate off your own endeavours is ultimate test of who you are. Being satisfied with your best is real happiness.

That you pose the question at all, does you credit but just don't be afraid to make a mistake. The key is to change direction once you realise that you have made one, not as easy as it sounds!

Best of luck with your career choice.

    Peter

Look at what wealthy people did to make their money and do something similar - not copy them but use the same methods.

There's a very good book How To Get Rich by Felix Dennis. Read that, it's not the usual 10 point plan BS, it's a guy who got rich telling how he did it. It will open your eyes. The first part outlines reasons why you don't want to be rich !

If you want to be rich then in most parts of the work then doing a business course is not a good idea. You are better off doing a Science/Engineering/Technology course and getting a technical job and/or invent something. Even if you don't invent something a lot of people with technical degrees end up running businesses. Its very easy to pick up the business side afterwards (mainly common sense) but very very hard to pick up the technical side.

If you can do complex mathematical calculations for science/engineering then the maths to run a business it trivial.
