I hope you get a response other than mine here to your thread. Im also thinking of getting one of these for each one of my parents. ive been toying with the Hannspree one on Groupon or this one on Harvey Norman for €97.00. They both seem to have a similar spec. The one on Groupon seems decent but apparently you cant access the googleplus android market. At least not out of the box and not sure if there is a solution to that online. But im sure there are still plenty of other sources to download apps and it would probably suit pretty good for just email and internet.

Can anyone shed any light which one would be better all round?

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about Harvey Normans. I will take a look at that one. At least there I can get to see it in the flesh and see what it's like. Thanks a million. Bit early I know! but have a nice Christmas :)

Also really considering this Hannspree on Groupon.

Sees to have good reviews apart from the lack of google play.

I only want it to watch videos, youtube, internet etc.

Ive also come across this one in Peats
    http://peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog_v2.cgi?id=29789&type=product

It is also priced at €99.00.
There does not seem to be much difference in the specifications than that of the Hanspree. Plus i like the idea of buying from a physical shop in case it breaks down or if you are not happy with it, you could probably bring it back and buy a better one so a bit less risk than buying online.

Given that there is no price difference and there those not seem to be much difference in features or specifications,i dont see how buying online is worth the risk. If something does go wrong with it, you may have to pay the postage costs. Im not even sure what the postage costs are though or even if there are any for the Hannspree on Groupon.

I agree with Lightspeed. I'd much prefer to buy local as well I might get someone to look at the one in pests for me

Or the Hannspree is available in DID for €129.00 so at least its a half recognised brand name and there is a physical shop to bring it back to.

The other half is looking to get one of these for her old man. I'm assuming Kindle should work perfectly fine on this for him?

Any other tablets to the value of around €150 that would be better than this?

Just ordered, will end up at €170 after cashback claim.

    Delighted.

Guys im not sure if anybody know of the guys below?

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Vida-IT-Maia-II-7-Inch-Tablet-PC-Android-4-0-MID-1-5Ghz-CAPACITIVE-TOUCH-SCREEN-/271054486275?pt=UK_iPad_Tablets_eReaders&hash=item3f1c1b3b03#ht_7785wt_1039

It seems to be an irish based shop on ebay and they offer up to a year warranty.

The above 1.5Ghz,offers google play and priced at €99 with free delivery.

Anybody with any experience or knowledge on these able to better advise?

Lightspeed I don't know about those guys but I went into Harvey Normans in limerick last night and they had a nice tablet called scroll a 7" for €129 euro and it looked a nice bit of kit for the money. So I think that's the one Santa is bringing the daughter :)

Cool, i would look at the specs though. Also the above link to peat i posted is a scroll tablet. Peats have one for €99 and €119 so id recommend popping in to peats to make sure you are getting the best price.

Just wondering, did you get a chance to try out the Scroll in harvey norman?
If so what was it like, was it decent or slow for browsing the internet?

I couldn't connect to the net but everything else was good the response times in loading a few music clips ect that they had loaded onto it was very quick and the screen was very responsive. I have to say I liked the tablet

i popped into harvey norman yesterday and had a quick look. It seems decent enough but i looked at the back of it and it is the Scroll Essential II. That very same model is only €99.00 in Peats. In fact Peats have a newer version of that device and its only €119.00. Given that Peats also have a walk in store, it would be madness to get it in Harvey Norman and pay an extra €30.00.

    http://peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog_v2.cgi?id=29789&type=product

Personally in gonna with the below

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Vida-IT-Maia-II-7-Inch-Tablet-PC-Android-4-0-MID-1-5Ghz-CAPACITIVE-TOUCH-SCREEN-/271054486275?pt=UK_iPad_Tablets_eReaders&hash=item3f1c1b3b03

    http://www.memorycards.ie/consumer-electronics/laptop-computers/tablet-pcs-android-tablets/vida-it-maia-ii-7-inch-1-5ghz-8gb-android-4-0-tablet-pc-512mb-ddr3.html

The above is from www.mermorycards.ie and they are based in Santry. So i reckon if there is any bother with, it still should not be much hassle in returning it.

The specs seem a little better as it has a 1.5 ghz processor and allows for Google play. Wheres the Scroll Essential II you saw in Harvey Norman has only a 1.2 ghz processor. I think you can still downloads apps from the Googleplay store.

Plus the battery is better on the one from memorycards.ie. The Scroll Essential II has a 2600mAh battery but the one on memorycards.ie has a 3000aMh battery.

The camera on the Scroll Essentials II is only a 0.3mp camera but camera on the one from memory cards.ie has a 1.3mp camera.

So there are a few notable differences and no difference in price if bought from their store on eBay.

Hope that this post is OK in this thread as the discussion seems to have gone slightly off the original product.
I am also in the market for a budget Android tablet.
lightspeed gives some very useful observations and links IMO.

    I was also looking at:
    http://www.dabs.ie/products/disgo-tablet-8100---10-1--slim-capacitive-android-2-3-o-s-7WCQ.html?src=3
    and
    http://www.electrodirect.ie/52-netbooks & http://www.electrodirect.ie/53-laptops
I'm a bit confused as to why their netbook running Android 4 and @1.5Ghz is cheaper than their low end tablets running Android 2.1 on a 800 MHz processor
