Speed limit Lower Glanmire Rd.

Can anyone explain the logic behind the raising of the speedlimit from 50kph to 60kph on a short section of the Lower Glanmire Rd.
It seems pretty pointless to me, I would have thought raising it to 60kph from Silversprings to Horgans Qy would have been a better idea.

Why not? It's not the most challenging bit of road. or if turns are beyond the average driver, make the straight stretch up the quays 60kh/h.

I've had this arguement with you before. Do you really believe drivers will attempt to go over the skew bridge at 60kph just because that is the speed limit ?

By the same logic, do you think all tight bridges such as the above should have a 50kph limit slapped on them on rural roads where the limit is now 80kph ? In fact, should speed limits be variable everywhere in the country depending on corner radius ?

Agree with you Augustus Minimus - it's very strange that they have 60km/hr in that one spot and yet Horgans Quay is still 50km/hr where 99% of drivers are doing 60 anyway (unless of course there's a sneaky guard hiding somewhere aiming his speed gun at passing cars:rolleyes:) - Horgans Quay itself should definitely be 60km/hr and no driver (unless you're a raving lunatic) would be doing 60km/hr at the skew bridge or turning a corner such as the one onto Water Street.

50kph on Horgans Quay makes little sense for a number of reasons.

1. Dead straight road
2. Very little pedestrian footfall
3. As the path is only on one side of the road, virtually no pedestrians would be crossing the road at any point

Of course, the Gardai realise this and have speed check points constantly outside of Union Chandlery.

Skew bridge at 60km/h? Challenge Accepted! Horgan's Quay was where I got my first ever penalty points, absolute scandalous place for a trap.
