Sounds like your hard drive is borked. I would check connections. Does it show up in the bios?

Check if the Hard Drive is in correctly.
Turn the Laptop upside down, look for a small rectangular panel.

When you open it, you should see something like this

    Or This

Make sure your hard drive is connected correctly. Pull it out first if you have to, then reseat it, and put back the screws.

If you are still having that problem, it sounds like your hard drive may have died..

be VERY VERY careful if u open up the laptop

ACER Inspires are notorious for developing dodgy screens after opening the case due to the ribbon coming lose. i have fixed several acer inspire ones in the last few months.

but if you hard disk is not detecting in the bios then it could very well be dying. if the bios does detect the drive you may need to use a windows recovery disc to repair the boot.ini if xp or bootsect if vista or win 7.

if u have no cd drive you will need to make a boot disc usb key with the OS setup files on it.

Hi I'm having the same problem with the same net book. In the bios the hdd name is appearing but there's a clicking noise coming from it on startup. How do I make a USB boot disk ??? Any links or help would be great,

    Thanks

it clicking is coming from hardrive it usually means the drive is dead.
you might need to buy a new drive.

Hard drive is finished. As long as there has been no physical signs of damage it will be replaced under warranty. Unfortunately they will not attempt to save any info on the old hdd.

Thanks for the replys folks, warranty is finished but thankfully i have all data backedup to an external drive. if I get a new hard drive put it in netbook what's the next step. Does it come pre loaded with windows or do I have to install this as I have no cd or cd drive.

    disk comes with no os,

I don,t know is it legal to install windows from a borrowed dvd.
IF you were to do so it would need to be same os,
    eg windows 7 starter,
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/installing-windows-7-on-a-netbook

And use the licence key ,no on the label underneath.
MY netbook has win7 on a hidden partition,
i reinstalled the os once on it.

Even if you have a dvd ,you,d need to use a usb dvd drive to load it up.
Can you try the old drive in a caddy,
caddy sata drive enclosure, 2.5inch cost 14 euro.
