Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Playing very well and Cox unlucky.

Interesting to see an Irish team looking so young, fresh and eager. Has the threat of a sacking made Trap change his way of thinking a little or am I reading far too much into a friendly

do you people understand that the ball hitting a hand isnt always hand ball ?

for it to be hand ball a player must deliberately handle the ball

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Ah Cox, that shows yet again how he has such a poor scoring record :( Great work between Coleman & Long

It was a blatant handball. Clearly inexperience and eagerness to get the ball :D

Everyone looking to pass or run forward, except Whelan - always stops looks around and passes back (or straight out)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭born2bwild

They're giving it loads anyway - makes more sense to keep it and pass it....just don't give to Whelan or O'Shea

the ball clearly hit his hand but i dont think he deliberately intended to handle it

Noticed that myself. He's being too safe.

Ridiculous how much more intent we have on the ball when using this team. Ward and Whelan are hindering us though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭BobbyPropane

Can't wait for O'Shea to try his tricks out and ruin the game.

Certainly not as deliberate as they come no, but there seemed to be an awkward movement towards the ball to gain control of it which hit his hand, have seen them given.

    Poor from McClean

    still no poppy though

'Put a staple in it, wipe the blood off and get on with it': Ronnie 'no pity' Whelan.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,488 ✭✭✭celtictiger32

thats a bit cocky from samaras over getting his hair done during a match:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,109 ✭✭✭Patser

Whelan in forward pass shock... Great pass too to Brady:D

    Atrocious from Greece so far.

    Stephen fcukng Ward.

yep i agree that there was an awkward movement towards the ball but i think he just mistimed or misjudged the flight of the ball or was caught a bit by surprise by it coming through to him.

we have seen lots like this wrongly given but i think the ref got it right this time

Platini seems much more interested in the game than Delaney......

    Oh bugger

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭BobbyPropane

    That was a nice goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Horrible long punts forward by Forde and now Ward, Trap style

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,041 ✭✭✭Havermeyer

    Ah jases.

    Tidy finish, though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    FFS.

We were giving the ball away way too cheaply before that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

Well, defending just like against Germany, no pressure on the ball, couple of passes, still no pressure, goal.

Auld Mother O'Shea at fault yet again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭BobbyPropane

Auld Mother O'Shea at fault yet again.

Would usually agree but not this time. Although for some reason he has a fear of blocking the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

a lot of green shirts around the ball there but there was no pressure applied. traps teams are always hard to break down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,109 ✭✭✭Patser

Letting Greece gave the ball and space too close to goal again. Nothing learned from the goal conceded. Greece looking a lot better than Ireland now, after our bright start

He didn't get close enough to the striker and let him turn. Very timid.

He was actually too close. He initially made a tackle from behind and got the ball but there was no one around in midfield even near the box.

What a soft goal, we've seem that many times. Good old Trap whose thing is being solid at back yet again delivers :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Does Whelan really have a knock or is he off because he was having a stinker?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,109 ✭✭✭Patser

Whelan going for the D'Artagnan look for Movember?

For some reason I've always liked Andrews in an Irish shirt, always seems to try hard for the team and inject passion. By no means a great player but always will try.

Come on, that was not a soft goal, guess you classify every goal as soft!
It was a great first touch and shot on the turn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,800 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

It's easy for Greece now. We've gone to sh!t.

It was a great first touch and shot on the turn.

I think the 'soft' element was the 3 passes at the edge of our box before the shot, with no challenges or pressure on the passers.

It was a soft one to concede, where was the pressure on the ball at any stage?? Trap goes on about that crap and we very rarely see it anymore...plus gotta endure a game at home where we have yet to have a shot on target at almost ht :(

Looking at our defending and the case seems to be - swing in a cross or high ball and Clarke and O'Shea are fine. Pass low to the forward's feet and we're lost.

They were very quick and technical one touch passes. No way it was soft.
