We are having a regular visitor to our garden at night - we live in a semi d, with an approx 4ft wall and a gate. He is trying to get into the van which is empty and we have heard him on 3 occasions. Is it possible to get a device that will alarm us to someone being in the garden so we could try and stop him before putting more holes in the van. Thanks

Do you have a house alarm ?
If not I'd advise you get one :-)
If you have one and its wireless you could buy another wireless sensor €40- €80 and some photocells €20 -€60.. When he breaks the beam on the photocell it triggers the wireless sensor and activates the house alarm .. They're are systems out there that will do this but what I'm suggesting is only for temporary use until you catch him or her.
You could grease the top of the back wall so they ruin their clothes . It's a horrible sticky paint

Yes we have a house alarm, but it's wired (approx 20 years old). That's exactly what we were looking for something that would alarm us before he touches the van. It's very frustrating. The van isn't worth much but it's more the cost of fixing it. He's not the smartest tool in the box and does tend to make quite a bit of noise. We have already had one van stolen from outside the drive (but suspect this was done by a "professional). Is there a stand alone device we could get? Thanks

Probably time to consider upgrading the alarm if its 20 years old. Siemens or HKC would cater for your wired zones & also give you the option of using wireless devices in the way TB described.
