Hi guys. Had a misfire today with the shotgun, there was a light strike on the cartridge, so I put it down the left hand barrel instead and it went fine. Fired another cartridge from the right to check, and while it fired, the strike on the case is noticeably less deep than those from the left barrel. Is there any common problem here that I might be able to fix myself? Otherwise, who would you guys recommend for shotgun mechanical work?

AYA No. 4. Is installing that the sort of thing you can do at home?

I think that might be a job for a gunsmith. I'm sure your local rfd would be able to give the number of a good lad that could fix it for ya.
As far as I know there's a lot of moving parts in a shotgun action, and I'd be useless at that kind of thing myself, so I just wouldn't chance a DIY job myself.

Damaged spring or worn firing pin, leave it in to get it fixed if you're not sure how to do it yourself.

Cheers lads. Anyone got recommendations of someone to talk to about it? Would it require a shotgun specialist or would the likes of Fergal Whyte be as good an option?

Ask him, he's the only one who can tell you aye or nay for definite.

Ring Tony Curran in Ardee sports, and tell him you need it fixed, and what the issue is.

Bring it to your local dealer. Have him send it to Tony. Costs around €8 -€15 depending on courier. He'll fix it, and return it to your dealer.

You might be able to post it yourself, but i'd recommend an RFD. They usually have an account with a courier service, and get better, more prompt, and cheaper service than you would.

Agree with you on that; Tony is probably one of a handful in Ireland:
a genuine gunsmith. I have had a few bits of work done by Tony and was very pleasantly surprised by the turn around time, the quality of the work and the very reasonable price charged.
