I am likely to be offered a job soon in Christchurch soon, in the rebuild. I will be going on a work visa (not a WH) - does anyone have a recommendation for a specialist who I can pay to do this process for me? I have located a few via a google search, but as ever, a boards recommendation is worth a thousand +1's on google!

    Hey Mate,

My company transferred me across from Australia and they used Ernst and Young - New Zealand. They were great. I was dealing with a girl name Bibiana Brown. As soon as they had all the info, the application took about 2 days to process!! All i had to do was pack!!
They set me up on the Work to residence visa so basically after 2 year I can apply for PR, which is nice.

I just got my visa two days ago, it took less than 2 weeks from start to finish and that was with me having the complication of having diabetes and the medicals had to be referred to the medical assessor. The company I am going to work for sorted out the immigration company, they are Pathways to New Zealand (pathwaysnz.com). Anthony Callaghan was my contact.

My Husband has just been offered a job in NZ so should get his visa sorted quickly. As his wife, does anyone know how I apply to go also?

    thanks

You get in automatically on his visa, unless you have something serious to keep you out.

There are a range of visas that you can get for NZ depending on if you have a job offer, how long you plan to stay there etc.

Note also, if you are travelling on a work permit and plan to bring your partner / child out there, they need to have their own permit in place allowing them to work/attend school.

If anyone has any other questions, happy to help.

Hi I have been offered a contract with Canstaff as a Hammer Hand. How easy is it to get accommodation and what types are available. Also, I don't drive would this be an issue. I will be coming out alone are there many others who have come out alone, what is the social life like? I only have a 12month contract is there plenty of work out there with other employers as I don't want to go to all the expense just for 12 months work. I have been quoted $1700 for help getting a visa and $778 for essential tools does this seem right?

    Thanks

    Andy

Canstaff are a recruitment agency and will usually offer work to most/anyone. Are you a tradie? If you have qualifications at home, Id suggest coming over on a working holiday visa (only a couple of hundred) and you should be able to get work easily enough when you get here. Then if you find a job you like you can stay longer than 12 months, get a longer term visa and if not go home with no hassle.

I used a company called emigration associates. They got myself and my partner work to residency visas, it took about a month all in. They are expensive though circa 800STG all in. Then you have your medicals and postage costs too. But if your in a hurry they are good and know their stuff.

I have worked on shop fit-outs and sports stadiums, suspended ceilings and partition walls. I am semi-skilled no formal qualifications. I have over 15 years experience within construction both residential and office/factory and warehouses.
