The awkward moment when you try to start a car that's been lying up for a while and after a while realise the ecu has had it....

    Arse :(

Ah no way. :( What's going to happen with it now?

No way that is not good DGT, surely you've a box of them laying around!

In other random news from an alfa 159 ti spec to a santa fe, id say the chap will be missing the sporty feeling.

That was the van's ecu, I'm not overly fussed as I have spare ones :p

The 2.0 ecu looks like a direct swap. 1.2 ecu plugs into it perfect... Hmmmm.....

I never knew a car could have so many parts until I saw one of your posts.

I never want to be a mechanic after seen the stuff you do.

I wouldn't want to be a mechanic too, that would drive me up the wall.

I just do what I do because I love it :)

I know it's been asked a million billion times here but I cant find it anywhere:rolleyes:

I have my NCT tomorrow morning, first one I have ever had to do:o. What do I have to do to the car/bring with me?
    I know I need to:
    • Remove the hub caps
    • bring my licanse and log book
    • plug in the seat belts?

What else do I need? I'm starting to get nervous :o

Test fee, make sure the boot is empty, make sure there's nothing in the footwells, make sure it's insured and arrive 20 mins before your time.

    Thanks,

I keep a "boot tidy" in the boot with jump leads oil etc in it. Will I have to take that out?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

They require the boot to be completely empty as far as I know.

Rule of thumb is don't give them any excuse.

My mates GF had her NCT today, he just asked her in passing had she done the basics like expose seatbelts, top up washer fluids, check the oil, remove hub caps.

Was met with responses like "whats a hub cap" and "sure the garage checks the oil" etc etc.

Yep the centre cap covering the wheel nuts, wheel nuts must be exposed afaik.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

A centre cap is a whole lot different to a hubcap in the traditional sense in fairness...

All the current ones are anyway!!

My caps are different to those BMW ones as they cover the wheel nuts.

Lads, once your tax is out you have 'till the end of the month to pay it, right?
Otherwise I'm choosing between putting my can on the dyno or paying tax.

I'll be there for it either way.

Nope, you should have a valid tax disc on display if using the car on a public road. Won't be lifted generally unless tax is two months expired, most Gardai won't mind a car with the tax expired less than a month.

You can go within a month untaxed without paying arrears.

I used to habitually drive about with the tax just out once every 3 months, never an issue, plenty of checkpoints and the occasional "random" pull over.

More physio today, (fyi, dont ever break a bone in your back it causes you endless bother ;) ) I've been told not to drive too much for the next few days:eek:
I dont think my trip to derry after my last session was exactly what she meant by resting:)

I got some rest right after my session by getting a new tattoo:pac:

    Nice one lads!

Pred, I haven't broken a bone in year but I think my worst memory from it was the pain after getting my cast off. I honestly thought my wrist was still broken.
