let me know if your tyres fail on age. 2 of mine are getting old! cant see anything on the nct manual about age though

the tyres on it now are new from this year... but tbh I can't see these guys looking at tyres anywhere at the center

ah checking tyres at the end....

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,964 ✭✭✭Kopparberg Strawberry and Lime

    Hit ramp..... *crunch*

    Hit ramp slower.... *crunch*

    Hit ramp slower again.... *creak...runch*

I think something's gone wrong in the right from suspension. Again.

except on one of them (I don't know which one) would fail the nct because of the date on it from what atlas told me but they are still perfect.
There is no Fail for tyre age, he was prolly trying to sell you tyres! You get an "advisory" for tyres over 6years of age. What date (4digits after DOT) are yours?

he said expired but it didn't matter to just leave it.

I dunno the date on it.

    that's good to know though

Congrats, mine'll be getting the work done this week for its retest. :)

Currently sitting in Autodepo Tyres Tallaght... My sidewall split after hitting a curb. :(
Luckily I have a perfect tyre so it's only €15 for a switch and balance.

To me that's a fortune to change one miserable tyre and balance it! But then again, I'd hate paying for stuff like that...

Hmm, we'll seeing as there's no hope of me doing it myself it's not too bad I guess.

Last time I got wheels balanced it was €20 for all 4. I only balance them myself if I have the tyre on the wheel with the weights still in situ

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Hmm, maybe it is a bit steep.
In the process of doing it now anyway, ah well. Such is life.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

Presume that covers the proper disposal of the scrap tyre too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

As do I, I'll be leaving it with them anyway.

The ol double sided 3m tape isn't working right for holding on the lip kit at all, anyone know of a good product like tigerseal but not as strong that would do the job?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

Ah shoite, sorry to hear that man! it's hard to get something that isn't permanent and can withstand the elements :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

I've a bout 20e worth of tape on it now. It's a stupid design there's only about half an inch of the lip that you can use for adhesion. I think I'll just leave it on now even when selling so so something very strong would do, even if it ripped paint off when coming off it wouldn't really matter as you'd have to be almost under the car to see it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

You could try some standard hot melt glue. Might sound crazy but I find the stuff is actually very strong and can be removed using some heat and/or IPA.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

Never heard of it man, is it a motor factors job?

Ah yeah duh hot melt, I might have some around if I can find the glue gun!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

Nope. It's used for arts & craft mainly I believe!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot-melt_adhesive

They pop up in Lidl from time to time. It is also used with Paintless dent removal kits to attach the puller to the car -- pops right off with the application of some IPA.

It's often a Lidl/Aldi job. I gave away a hot glue gun not long ago IIRC.

It's fairly messy though from what I remember of using it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

If you do give it a go just make sure it gets very hot before use. This stops it from setting before you get things in place. The lidl ones are good for this as they are a few hundred watts and designed to be used "cordless" once heated up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

Thanks lads, hopefully the tape will last til tomorrow when I get something.

I was talking to my friends uncle who works as an nct tester about the hid situation and asked him about the automatic levellers and headlight washers etc, he said once the hids are aligned he can't see why they wouldn't pass but agrees there is a discrepancy there. He hasn't failed anyone on it anyway.

Got me collinite wax for me car winter prep which will hopefully be done this week. Free pad applicator thrown in too from cleancar.ie. Always great to deal with :).

Taught this was a fun gif from the gif thread :D.
