eircom wireless prolem

So, my parents got wireless with eircom, set up the router, and have it switched on, have the wireless on my laptop, but cannot find the signal, attempted with a different laptop last night, but to no avail, any suggestions?

When you set up the router what wireless settings did you use and do those on the laptop match those in the router.

Particularly are you connecting to the correct router, using the same security context and the correct password. IS DHCP enabled on the router and are the laptops set to get their ip address from the router.
