I'm getting DK as well. If I get the code I'll post to let you know.

Nice! Waiting on Animal Crossing for my freebie game!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Me too. Of all the ones on offer it seemed like the best one to have "always on" - I remember with the DS AC game I'd fire it up for about 20 minutes every day to get my daily chores done, but I was always resentful of it and whatever the current pokemon was taking up 2 of my 3 on-the-go cart slots.

    This, so much!

DKC:R has been out since last night. Where is my flippin' code Nintendo? Better come today! :pac:

Edit: Just saw on NeoGAF that it's about 17,000 blocks.
    8 blocks = 1mb, so that's just over 2gb to download. Yikes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Monster Hunter is over 14,000 blocks too, I bought a 16gb sd card for €9.99 in Gamestop yesterday to cover me for this promotion, I plan to have Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Donkey Kong, Luigi 2 and Animal Crossing all on the one console by this time next month.

If you've selected DKCR as your free game in the Too Many Games promotion, log into your Nintendo account now to get the code (you don't have to wait for an email). It's displayed at the top of the screen once logged in. :)

Anyone else disappointed with Donkey Kong, no where near the classic the SNES version was, both sets of controls are really off putting, crappy graphics too, the SNES version was much sharper and had that great intro. I have been looking forward to this game for weeks, very disappointing over all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,618 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Graphics great, gameplay great, tougher than the original 3 games, tons of content and secrets, great music, lots of variety.

I had this on the Wii and finished the core game. Now I have it again on the 3DS and I'm enjoying even more (no stupid waggle controls). Aiming to see all golden temples this time....

    Sorry. :o

Ok, I am just not a fan of it, I have never played the Wii version and was expecting the SNES version instead or at least a choice between the two,it is up for swap in the swap section. May be I'll pick it up in the summer sale in Gamestop when they do 3 for 2 on preowned games but for now it is out of here!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,693 ✭✭✭Deano7788

I'm loving it as well (I had it on Wii as well). I'd agree with everything Mr E said. Also, the original hasn't actually aged very well.I have it downloaded on the Wii and it feels clunky compared to what I remember. It's still enjoyable but not as good as I remember.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Each to his own, enjoy the game, I'm playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon myself at the moment, gonna start Luigi 2 tonight as that was my freebie.

They weren't very good on release either just people went crazy over the pre-rendered graphics which look awful now. DKC2 is the best of them and even then it's kind of samey.

Well I was only 6 when the original came out so that may have influenced my opinion :pac:.

Mario Golf has slipped to 2014 makes sense to do it when you look at all of these plus Project X Zone, Harvest Moon, Professor Layton, Arkham Origins Blackgate and Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies due in 2013.
Man there is a lot of games coming this year.

We've the biggest out of all the regions.
    Japan I think was 5400
    America is just over 6000
And Europe is just under 6500,
How big was the DK file?

Yep, around 2GB, which is over 17,500 blocks. As far as I know it's the largest game on 3DS, with the next being Monster Hunter at over 14,000 blocks.

I've just under a thousand left on my 4GB card so looks like I'm going to have to go and buy a bigger card!

I decided to do "download later" for DK, should've taken about 3 hours on my connection...ended up taking 12
I just did a normal download for AC, down in 70 minutes...as it should have been! luckily.

I had bought a 32GB a few weeks beforehand. I had been using the 2Gb one that came with the original 3DS so I got lucky. The game was bigger than my card.

There's a new update available that lets you back up saves of downloadable games. It's also made available 4 new streetpass games, with 99 new hats and outfits. The downside is that they now cost money. Each one costs €4.49, or you can get all 4 for €14.49. Apparently, European gamers have had crashes when downloading the game.

And you have to go into the Mii Plaza to update that. It seems to have to be done separately after the system update, or at least it was for me.

So the update just lets you backup saves of downloadable games? Could you not do that already, since they're on the SD card?

Just updated, you now have the shop for the new games (Streetpass Garden, Streetpass Mansion, Streetpass Battle and Streetpass Squad) and the Exchange Booth which I can't access, possibly because I don't own the new games.

When I accessed the Shop option to view the details of the game, Mii Plaza crashed with "An error has occurred forcing the software to close. The system will now restart (unsaved data may be lost). Is this some crazy meta game that I don't understand or have they just borked some perfectly good software in the pursuit of cash?

Edit - restarted, went back in, there was more messaging and a free gift (I got a Pixel Mario Hat), then a software usage agreement that didn't show up the first time. Now my Mii has the Change Outfit option.
Accessing the shop still causes a crash though... (My Mii and a Rabbit look like they're about to chat, it freezes for a moment and down it goes, like a blindfolded Michael Douglas at a seafood buffet.

Checked the e-Shop, no mention of this weeks titles so it's possible the backend isnt' there yet.

Edit 2 : Oh, a new panel! There was no notification till I went into the Puzzle section of the Plaza.
Blue piece? Son of a bitch. Skyward Sword. A bit late with that one, Ninty.

Save Data Backup is through System Settings \ Data Management \ 3DS.
You can't back up Animal Crossing save. Or Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Or the NES games I tried. Seems to work on dedicated eShop titles though.
does not bode well for Nuzlocking on the download version of Pokemon X/Y though :)

Crashes for me every time that I try to go to buy any of the new games too. >_<

[edit] Same with me for the puzzle piece, blue one, but for Super Mario U + Super Luigi U

It's crashing on my 3dsxl but not on the 3ds... It's quite nifty how the rabbit tries to sell it to you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Very weird. Might try again later, or wait for reviews of the games...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Hope they don't require additional streetpass slots. I'm at max already and had to cancel my Streepass sending for Letterbox to make room for Animal Crossing :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Think they'll just use the standard Streetpass Plaza slot, same as the old Plaza used one for both Puzzle and Quest

A bit late but yes! Just finished Friday on Tuesday, which is the main bit of the game. Short - VERY short - but.... I think the word is "lovely". It's not really challenging, and the plot is fairly predictable once you get into it but it's just such a relaxing game to play. It's less of a game, more of a Ghibliesque interactive novel. You seldom don't know where to go next, and even when you figure it out you are still obliged to pick the hints up before you can go and do what you need to do.

There's a fun little passtime (though it becomes crucial at a critical point), the Monster Cards game, which is just Rock Paper Scissors - Championship Edition. The rounds are quick, so the simplicity of the game doesn't really get you down. You gather glowing tokens off the ground that appear at various points in the game, enough tokens of a single type gives you a card, you can combine multiple cards to make stronger cards etc etc. But there's still an element of chance and skill that makes it rewarding to play. Once you finish the plot the game keeps rolling so you can collect more cards and play the game, though I'm not sure how much of an incentive that would be.

It only took me a few days to beat the main game, so that's a handful of hours, but I bought in on sale, and I definitely do not regret it.

    Sparkle punch!

Attack on Titan looks pretty schweet, have to say...

The first half of the year is pretty light on stuff I want to buy for the 3DS - Yoshi's New Island and Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright (both in March).

Anything else I should be keeping an eye out for?
