FINANCIAL guru Eddie Hobbs has quit RTE's 'The Consumer Show' – a month after he raised concerns that the broadcaster would prevent him from expressing his opinions.
But despite stepping down as a presenter, RTE said it still hopes the outspoken economist will continue to be involved as an expert contributor.
The national broadcaster said Mr Hobbs had always found his position as an objective reporter "a difficult one".

Firstly, how could Eddie (or anyone else in the same position) be objective when he was encouraging people to buy into his investment scheme during the boom?

Secondly, how can any reporter be truly objective when there is always a slant applied to every report?

    Just wondering, really!

I believe that it is possible to be an objective reporter, but increasingly difficult the closer you are to home.

I agree with your views on Eddie Hobbs, the people's champion my arse!

Not like someone from Cork to quit something when they don't get their own way.

Straight news reporting can always be objective. Who, what, when where, why and how.

Opinion pieces and sometimes analysis are by nature slanted but it should be clear if there is any agenda - ie. a priest writing about the Catholic view on abortion, a solicitor writing about solicitors fees. A simple disclaimer at the top or bottom of the piece achieves this.
That is of course in a perfect world.
