How do you cut your sandwich?

Just wondering, what way does everyone cut their sandwiches? And is there any particular reason why?

Going to school in the 80s everybody had their sandwiches cut plainly into two rectangles, this oul diagonal stuff must have been seen on Dynasty or Dallas(maybe neighbours).

I think when you cut it diagonally you end up having to take a bigger bite of the crust when you get to the corner and you end up having more filling falling out at either end.

Depends on the sandwich.
If I have a waffle sanger I like to have it without cutting.
Anything else just cut it across.

I cut a sandwich horizontally most of the time but if it's toasted I cut it diagonally! I have no idea why!

Diagonal, or the 4 triangles as above. esp. if batch loaf. It looks nicer but I find it easier to eat without stuff falling out.

If you cut in 4 you can hold a long edge with both hands, raise it up and your first bite is the pointy bit away from your hands. Now you are left with a tapered edge trapezoid like this

Less likely for stuff to fall out. If its rectangular and you go for the middle, the end fillings can fall out, or if you go for 1 corner the other easily falls out.

If cut in 2 diagonally you can still go for the pointy bit first.

Yeah, because cutting it straight across the middle gives you one protestant side dominant sandwich and one catholic side dominant sandwich, which means that as soon as you're done with the protestant side, you have the anticlimactic catholic side to choke on.
