Irish Hip Hop

Ok I have to admit, I've never really been into Irish hip hop. Not that i'd ever heard much of it but what I did, I didn't really think rapping in a Dublin accent sounded right.

Then I went to a gig to see Low Profile and a few others were playing too. Jambo and Veritas. Well talk about changing your mind. Oh my God these lads were amazing.

One of the groups were from Wexford I think. I'd love to put a link up to some of their stuff but I dunno if that's allowed like if it's seen as advertising or whatever.. Mind you I just name dropped for them there didn't I haha.

Does anyone here know any other Irish hip hop acts and has anyone ever seen any of those ones I mentioned??

To me MJEX are the best Irish Hip Hop act that ive listened to and seen live. 'Now this I have to hear' is still one of my favorite albums that I own. The middle 4/5 tracks has some absolutely top class production and quality story telling. Just love it.

Having said that this is still my favorite track of theirs(or CC). Perfect for before walking onto the football pitch

The only Irish rapper worth talking about at the moment is Rejjie Snow. His beat selection and videos are just on a whole other level to the rest of IHH. Hope its a wake up call for other artists to step up.

Don't make me laugh. The chap was an embarrassment when he supported Kendrick Lamar. That song is awful, can't help but cringe when I hear those lyrics.

Lethal Dialect, Rejjie Snow, GI, Costello, RiRa, Sons Phonetic, Flying Buttress, Spekulativ Fiction, Jambo. All of those lads make quality tunes. Class A'z are the definition of cheese.

Agree with HighClass.

A lot of Irish rap used to be really cheesy but there wasn't much around at the time so it was still kind of fun. But now there's plenty of tasteful stuff around so the old guard are all finding their audiences disappearing. Plus it's hard get 100k views on Youtube these days like you could a few years back so visibility in general is dwindling.

The Irish rappers that have broken away from the 'I am a better rapper than you' style are the ones getting recognition now.......or else the ones that are getting Nate Dogg Funzo on the hook.

Battle raps should be kept for battles.
