Edit: Looks like the code doesn't work anymore for their Black Friday Laptops. Still good value though at their current prices and Fatcheese 3% will apply also

As a follow up from the Dell thread as I think it deserves its own thread.

Great deal on this laptop as part of Dells Black Friday deals. Price is €479 but using the code 3TN7?CN$6RHNC3 brings it to just over €430. Fatcheese might knock another 3% off

Normal price on the Dell website including Office for €82 is €700

    Can be seen here

    2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i3-2367M processor (3M Cache, 1.4 GHz)

    Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

14.0” High Definition (720p) WLED with Truelife (1366x768) standard

    6GB4 DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz

500GB Serial ATA (5400RPM) with 32GB MSATA Card

    1.87 kg

Credit also to Beer Barron and Occono

I'm getting the message "The following coupons have been entered but require additional information or do not meet eligibility requirements. Click "View Details" link(s) for more information." when I use the discount code

Is there any way around this?

Just checked again myself and it looks like its not working now. It was working for all except the Inspiron 15 half an hour ago

They were having issues yesterday with vouchers but it was supposed to be sorted. I used my EPP voucher this morning and it worked fine. I just put the other voucher number i have in and it works fine as well. Could be something to do with a specific voucher number though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 195 ✭✭WEST

Does anyone have a voucher that works?

    Thanks,
    W.

Worked fine for me just before I posted this. Its possible that they didn't want it applying to these so blocked them off from using the code. There's also this code for 10% off over €550 seems to overwrite the Black Friday discount b7bth9wzhhdsv$.

I presume this 3TN7?CN$6RHNC3 is the one?

During checkout theres a box for inputting a discount code. As per above though its not working anymore

do you still think it is a good deal for €479?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 419 ✭✭antomack

10% and 12% codes from 5hop5 are working together on quite a few of the W7 clearance laptops. Eg. €569 Inspiron 15 goes down to €450.

Yes very good price still for this. It would have cost €700 yesterday for the same package. Their a good sized laptop, lighter than your standard laptop and it should run very well with the specs included.

Good spot! Great value for the second one here using the 2 codes 3TN7?CN$6RHNC3 and b7bth9wzhhdsv$

€450 for the following Inspiron 15R:

    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3210M processor (3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)

    Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

15.6in High Definition (1366X768) WLED with TrueLife

    4GB4 DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz

1TB (5,400rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive

    Intel HD Graphics 4000

Only sacrifice is that you don't get a Dedicated Graphics Card but you can get Win 8 upgrade for €14.99

The 15R with the 7670m has a good graphics card FWIW (not top of the line but will run full res at medium settings for most games), goes to €550 with the codes. Comes with MS Office too.

Yeah that one does but the entry level clearance deal doesn't but if you are a browser or use it to watch DVD's then its perfect.

The one I just bought has a 1GB AMD (14z i5) which is more than what I need really but I have MS Office Pro and McAfee Enterprise on a Flash Drive to install when it arrives anyway.

    Found this one.

You can buy this for €579 before discount with

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=n00i1441&model_id=inspiron-14z-5423&c=ie&l=en&s=dhs&cs=iedhs1&

    i5 Processor
    Win 7
    6GB
    500HDD+32SSD

Built in Graphics and the usual other stuff

    OR for €749

    i5 Processor
    Win 8
    6GB
    500HDD+32SSD

    Dedicated 1GB AMD Graphics

So if you want a great 14z Ultrabook and don't mind the version of windows(upgrade for €14.99) and don't need a dedicated Graphics card then €579 before discounts is the way to go.

Ended up with a 22% discount on a clearance laptop, 25% if Fatcheese works. I still feel queasy spending hundreds online, but, yay.

Happened to me as well. Buyers remorse or something similar. I spent about €635 in one go. Been a while since I have done that thanks to the R word. :D

Funny story: I bought from Dell earlier this year. However I ordered a cancellation so I could buy it again with a coupon I didn't know about. However, apparently their email was down or something, so it didn't go through before the order was "shipped", but a support guy said they'd handle it and give me a full refund. But then, Ulster Bank had their whole disaster, so the refund took forever.

Believe me, I shopped around, Dell still was the best bet for what I was looking for.

Any way to get a further discount (other than fatcheese) off the €479 of original 14z posted here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

Lads the 14z does look like a decent deal at €479 but just one thing confuses me the processor - 1.4ghz and i3.

Have this cart saved with two 1.4's in there. As a business I can reclaim the 23% as well so even better.

Would I notice the benefits of a better processor in say a 15in model with perhaps less ram etc?

Not a gamer and would be used for usual business and online stuff mainly.

Just curious as to whether spending a bit extra and opting for something else would be worthwhile especially if the codes kicked in etc.

I've used 2 codes an got a nice discount, but before i purchase whats the fatcheese discount people are talking about? Thanks

It might struggle with HD flash video? I know my brother's netbook has a 1.7 Ghz processor and it stutters when Netflix is turned to HD, though it's fine with SD. But it had an AMD processor, maybe the i3's more efficient? :/

Expand on "Business stuff". IIRC you want a good processor for large Excel spreadsheets. Word can run on anything fine.

It's a site that offers a discount cashback if you use a redirect from them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

    Thanks Occono.

There would be one or two large excel files being used for business purposes.

The 15r listed at €569 which works with both the 10&12% codes looks like a good deal for €450 it has a i5 and 3.1ghz.

Thankfully I saved my baskets as it looks like Dell chop and change the specs all the time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,152 ✭✭✭✭Berty

I bought a built to order Ultrabook all the way from Foxconn on Friday. It shipped today apparently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,610 ✭✭✭shocksy

Decent priced laptop alright, but after reading many reviews on the dell.ie website from customers who bought this, there are far too many problems with the ultrabook that dell dont seem to be solving, and is best avoided, i'll look elsewhere.

I bought the version for €100 more with a gaming card, 2GB more RAM and Microsoft Office, otherwise identical. I read somewhere in the specs it has a 1.3mp camera.

All Dells come Pre loaded with eBay, amazon and Skype so it would want to have a webcam.

It has a webcam, click into the link an then tech specs and it says it has Native HD 1.0MP webcam with digital microphone

For anybody who ordered from the factory things are going well. I ordered mine at 10am on Friday, UPS have it right now loading it at shanghai airport hub and ill have it Wednesday.

Likely get here as fast as ordering from the warehouse in the UK I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭Occono

Dell have said mine's cancelled and I need to contact them via my student mail for some reason. I didn't go for some student version or anything.

This is the second time they can't handle it. Don't they know I'm a queasy buyer.

    Good price ^.

I just bought a 15R €619 minus two 10% codes so €501 and €407 with the vat back.

Not quite as good as two days ago but still not a bad price for a decent laptop.

How can you feel bad saving €118 but I guess just too greedy! :)

My laptop arrived today and reasonably happy with it.

I am used to Vista and this is Windows 8 and the requirement for a Microsoft account for every app is annoying me!

It appears to have a lot of built in bloat which I plan on disabling or is windows 8 worth sticking with to master the learning curve? :D

I find it fine other than having to install a start button. Probably slightly preferred 7 but Vista I found awful compared to either of them. Havent been near the app type screen at all. Don't know why they bothered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,152 ✭✭✭✭Berty

I received my laptop(I bought the i5 14z in red) and was annoyed at win 8 so upgraded it back to Win 8 Pro with Media Centre Pack(had license from old laptop, asked windows to give me a 2nd license which they did). Only minor differences. You get used Win 8 actually. I hated it but not because I have put often used programs on the Windows screen it makes it easier to load them. I don't like having a cluttered desktop so they are handy on the Windows screen. Some of the apps are crap though, like Amazon and Ebay which come with new Dell systems. Awful interfaces so I just use the normal web versions.

I also got rid of the McAfee trial. It was nothing but a bunch of adverts trying to get me to buy other McAfee products. I just put on McAfee Enterprise(corporate version) where they are afraid to piss off the client in the same way. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

At least I am not alone! :D

    Thanks lads.

Discom - what do you mean about installing a start button?

After playing some more with it last night it appears to be trying to be like a big smart phone what with the apps and all that and I would agree most are not great - why use an ebay app when I can go to ebay via google.

As for McAffee I will change that for something else.

On the desktop as you don't get one as standard. Does the standard version of Windows 8 actually come with a standard desktop also? I have pro and don't go anywhere near their touchscreen type interface

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,152 ✭✭✭✭Berty

You could have bought a touchscreen 14z but it was a squillion euro or something.
