My USB stick reads 80% fragmentation

    My USB stick reads 80% fragmentation. I understand that with no moving parts & limited write cycles, it is not recommended to defrag flash memory, however does such a high fragmentation impact on performance of the device? Detailed response appreciated.

    It really depends on the technology.
    Normal USB sticks will be affected quite a bit by defragmentation - SSDs however wont be affected to the same extent.
    The wear leveling (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wear_leveling) techniques used in these usb drives are transparent to the user, so that should not "cause defragmentation" - it is the logical layer above that that the computers see's as defragmented.
    If you really need to defrag a flash drive, copy all the data off and quick format it instead. Then copy the data back.
