Looks like a power supply for something. What type of cables are coming out at the bottom ? Hard to make out from the pic....

Il have a look tomorrow. Just curious as they changed all the poles to steel ones and then put these boxes up under each light. it's not on a main road so I wouldn't say it's for Christmas lights . They're sodium bulbs ( orange lights) . Maybe they're new light fixtures all together but the old lights didn't have these boxes and were the same size

Its just a box that contains the fuse unit for the light. Thats all that is inside it.

Really ??? Seems like a huge waste .. All the new white lights that were placed down the alley way don't gave these. Why do they need one for each and every light ? Are they not all joined ? All the photocells have covers on them

They need to be used when there is no switch wire on the network. As you can see in the picture there is only four wires which are the three phases and neutral. The switch wire was a fifth one that was dedicated to the public lighting. The fuse units that were used previously just mounted to the pole and were weathered very easily. This box is an IP rated enclosure to keep the fuse unit in perfect condition.

i think the lights are prob wired independently
-a separate fuse unit for each would be correct for fault clearance and maintenance

All public light is independently fused and isolated as the maintenance of the pl is no longer done by esb but now done by private contractors so they can switch out light by light
