What's this structure?

Was driving up Orchard Road and seen this structure that appears to be like an old wall or ramparts.

Does anyone know if it has any historical significance?

Have a look on the osi website. You can overlay old historical maps on modern ones and see exactly what was there. A chemical factory at one stage.

Just did a bit of digging around and have turned up a reference to a lime kiln on Orchard Road.(p.33 PDF).

I wonder if that's what it is?

Yeah looks like it was a chemical works as above (thanks).

It's not part of the Railway and stonework looks far too neat and dressed to be a Lime Kiln.

it was a lime kiln, remains of brookfield chemical works, which in latter days manufactured cordials especially raspberry, closed in late 1930s, factory dismantled and parts sold to anyone who had the manpower to shift it (this was an era before cultural preservation), was owned by jennings family who owned brookfield house
