Has anyone heard of or know where I can get an olympic style thick bar, which holds standard 1 inch plates? Cheers.

As in you want a bar that rotates at the collars, or your want a bar with a 2 inch thick middle and 1 inch thick ends for the plates to slide onto?

Not sure if these are of interest, I have them and like them, a few others here liked them too.

Exactly that, I have 180kg of standard plates and bent the standard bar I have so was hoping for something like this, rather than starting again with an olympic set.

Olympic bars are 28mm, not 2" which is 50mm, through the shaft

Good luck gripping a 2" bar though

A 20kg bar but with 1 inch ends for the (standard?) plates to fit onto.

I'm not saying such a one doesn't exist but I can hardly see a market for it so it may be hard to find one even if it did exist.

I have this problem too.Dont have the money to splash out on an olympic set.I found this one

    http://www.profitness-supplies.com/york-80-beefy-bar-spinlock-with-collars-1.html
Now its just an 80 inch spinlock collar bar but its rated for 150 kg so should take a good bit more .If ya get one let me know how ya go.

A lot of the 20kg of a oly bar will be on the big thick ends.

You would have to have a really thick and/or long bar to be 20kg. If the middle gets really thick you still have the inherent weakpoint of the thin ends. All things being equal a bar end with no threads should be a bit stronger.

all the bog standard york ones are 125kg

I was wondering if the rating went up as they got shorter. I would expect a shorter bar to be able to handle more without bending.
