Got an e-mail today to say my hub was on it's way, and should arrive in the next few days. About 3 minutes later there was a knock on the door and a courier handed me the package containing the hub.. Now that's efficiency!! :):)

(have to wait on my activation confirmation e-mail before hooking it up though)

Done:) and it works too. + the sky+ app on iphone now works in terms of controlling the sky box, a bit of a gimmick I know but will come in handy soon cos I'm going to put in a HDMI splitter and will now be able to use the phone as a remote control in the second location.

Bundles and prices are out and as predicted, they are no better than any other dsl offering.

If you leave out the different offers like Eircoms half price for 6 months or whatever it is Sky's prices are just marginally better than Vodafones which are probably the cheapest out there.

The bonus with Sky however is the UNLIMITED broadband and the ability to call 20 international destinations free

One other little saving to be made over VF's price is the call answering. Thats free with Sky where as VF are charging €1.46

I not so sure that I'd say they are the same...

    Vodafone Deals

    €40 - Offpeak calls + 8mb max Broadband with 40Gb Limit

    €45 - Anytime calls + 8mb max Broadband with 40Gb Limit

    €59 - Anytime Calls + 24Mb Broadband with 350Gb limit

    Sky Deals

€30 - Offpeak Calls + Max Available speed broadband with No Cap or FUP

€37.50 - Anytime Calls (with 20 International Countries) + Max Available speed broadband with No Cap or FUP

So , Sky deal for "Offpeak calls " + Broadband is €10/month cheaper with the addition of no limit on speed or Downloads and the deal for "Anytime calls" is up to €21.50/month cheaper with a better calls package.

Money in my pocket is always better from my point of view!!

But the figures you quoted are for calls and line rental. You have to add €10 for the broadband - see here

That's not how I read it...

    it says

    €10 a month
    with Sky Talk Freetime
(€30 a month including Sky Talk Line Rental)

So I take that to mean €30 all in..

If it said (including €30 a month Sky talk line rental) then I'd assume we added the €30 to the €10

I'm already signed up on the pilot scheme - Has anyone called them today to confirm the pricing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,034 ✭✭✭mad muffin

Plus if you're in the connect area it's €20 for unlimited bb...

  • Registered Users Posts: 67 ✭✭deeobrien

I looked at it today and I was confused by the prices. It's not clear with prices are inclusive and which need to be added together.

Also there doesn't seem to be any discount for sky tv customers which seems a bit strange - I thought that was the idea to bring in a bundle to that would prevent people leaving.

I am on the trial so I haven't rang them to confirm prices.

You're definitely reading that wrong and I think you are copying and pasting from 2 different parts of the offers.

The only thing I see wrote below the €10 broadband is "with Sky Talk" meaning that if you pay for Sky talk then you get the bb for €10.

Can you post a link to where it says exactly what you posted above?

"Active Eircom compatible phone line required"

Does that mean former eircom customers who no longer have a landline can't get Sky Broadband?

If we can't, will that change in the future?

    Here's the page.

Really surprised they have line rental in this day and age.

Will stick with my UPC broadband and Sky for TV

sky say they can activate it for me, i just called them there,
for entertainment extra plus sports, 1 multiroom, telephone and unlimited broadband, it came to 120 a month. Is there anything cheAPER OUT THERE?

Thanks for the link. I was looking at a different page. But in any event its still being read wrong by people. The €30 is for line rental and calls and you pay either €10 extra for unlimited bb or for 2Gb capped bb is free.

Just been going through the options for Sky's BB offering. Quick summary outlined below.

To be honest I never come close to the VF download limit so unlimited BB offering from Sky is not a big deal to me. Sky say they can provide 19.5Mbs BB but I'm pretty sure the max my phoneline will provide is 8Mb BB (kinda rural).

In relation to the phone offerings the ability to call 20 international destinations with Sky is attractive. I rarely (if ever) use my landline to ring a mobile number (that's what my mobile's for!) so the 3 nominated numbers from VF is no big deal.

So what would I get if I changed from VF to Sky? €2 extra on my bill for starters. Ability to call internationally to 20 countries. No DL limit on my BB. And a shiney new Sky Hub wireless router for which the spec is very hard to determine. Hmm, can't say I'm exactly chomping at the bit here. Was hoping there would be some sort of discount for existing Sky TV customers (of which I am one) who bundle all their services but sadly, no.

Currently I pay €45 to Vodafone and I get:
Unlimited anytime local and national calls
200 mins to 3 nominated VF mobile numbers
Other landline to mobile calls at 20c/min
    7Mbs Broadband
    60Gb Limit
    384kb upload speed

for €47 Sky will give me:
Unlimited anytime local and national calls
International calls under 60 mins duration to 20 destinations included
19.5Mbs Broadband (depending on line quality etc.)
    No download limit
    No detail on upload speed

Do Sky have the triple play prices with the TV bundles on their website?

My area is supposedly enabled for fibre with Eircom so I will hold off on switching until Eircom and then Sky launch fibre packages in the next month or two.

This is very disappointing compared to the early offers that some people got.

I was hoping to finally ditch vodafone but they are still better value.

It seems it's only of use to heavy internet users & people that make a lot of international calls?

€30 a month for BB lite (on BT network with 2GB limit) and talk free time
    add €10 for unlimted BB

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭channelsurfer2

not a great offering. as people have said it wont exactly have anyone rushing to switch to sky if they have upc fibre...2gb cap is laughable if you use the internet anyway at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭120_Minutes

I'm with vodafone and out of contract paying €45 p.m. for 6mb broadband with a 300gb cap. I pay €29 p.m for sky tv. (€74 p.m. total) I called sky to say i was cancelling as we use netflix a lot more (partly true) but would consider staying if they could cut me a better deal and they came back with my current tv package for €21 p.m. and unlimited broadband for €40 p.m. (30 line rental and 10 for bb) totalling €61 per month.

Seems to be worth taking in my case, but they claim my line can support 10mb and were confident they could supply it. how true is that? if they are faster than voda that would probably make my mind up.

that deal is for a 12 month contract by the way... i pushed for a sweetener and they said they'd give me the HD channels at half price per month (€7.50)

    For existing customers:
    http://www.sky.com/ireland/customer-shop/broadband-talk/

    New customers:
    http://www.sky.com/ireland/broadband-talk/

    For those on BT exchanges
2GB allowance +10 Euro for unlimited
30 Euros per month extra with free evening and weekend landline calls.

    So that's 30 or 40 Euro extra

For those Not on BT exchanges
10GB allowance (20 Euro) +10 Euro for unlimited
30 Euros per month extra with free evening and weekend landline calls.

    So that's 50 or 60 Euro extra.

If you input your phone number (you can skip the UAN part) it gives you expected speed on your line and if you are on a BT enabled exchange or not.

A far, far cry from earlier prices quoted. I'm hardly going to recommend to friends to jump on this offer. Can anyone else check the details, catches, call charges?

I signed up for Sky broadband Unlimited but can't get an exact price to pay. I don't think I am on the BT exchange but was expecting a final price of €40. Not €50 or €60 ?

Ugh, never mind, it was rubbish and wrong.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭channelsurfer2

ok Im not in a BT enabled exchange so when I add up and go through the order the options cost me 40 euro(30 euro sky talk lite plus 10euro for sky broadband) with maximum speed of 5.8mbs and usage limit of 10gb per month.
Currently with Vodafone I pay 38euro per month and get 40gb usage allowance which we use about 11gb average a month so I would have to add an extra 10euro to take the sky unlimited package making the sky "offer" 144 euro more expensive a year than the existing one I am on with vodafone.

Also with Vodafone if I sign up for another 24 month contract I can get the first 6 months for 19euro a month.

Cant see Sky getting much business based on that comparision anyway.....

    Sky should have done better!
There will never be competition in the DSL market due to line rental - so blame Comreg/Eircom!!

Also the person who gets 24mb ngb DSL pays the same as the person who can only get 3mb - €25 line rental - genius!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭Round Cable

Pretty poor offer to be honest,

€40 for broadband, line rental, offpeak calls to Ireland only.

    Smart telecom

€35 for broadband, line rental, offpeak calls to UK and Ireland, plus 30 minutes offpeak mobile calls to UK/Ireland.

Just off the phone from Sky where i was about to avail of the offer i spoke of a few posts back, I asked what the cooling off period was in case the speed/connection wasnt up to standard, and the guy put me on hold to check. he came back to tell me that there is no cooling off period so that if my BB is worse than what i have, i'm stuck with it!!

That cant be allowed? am i crazy?

of your telephone line) or 8 working days from placing your order with us; and/ or

    c) If you do cancel your order for Sky Talk and/or Sky Broadband, we will do our best to

Hmmm but they also "claim" that it takes up to 10 days for the speed to "level off" and "become accurate"

so they have me over a barrell.

Perhaps Sky has made the pricing so high to put pressure on Comreg to lower the line rental charge.
