    They're all RPGs that can be sub-categorized into smaller groups. It's like asking what constitute a sports game....fifa or tony hawk or virtual tennis etc. Most people answering this is just basically telling us what type of RPGs they enjoy the most.

    My only requirement for an RPG would be the game focuses around the ability to specialise in some skill area at the expense of some other skills.

    This, pure and simple. Lots of games have great story lines/ branching story lines, doesn't make them RPGs. Which is why I would agree why the likes of Zelda or Shenmue were never RPGs. Levelling up and character customisation FTW:p
