    Anyone else see the explanation in this months Irish Vintage scene as to why the two imported Model T's in a previous issue had original south Tipp (FI) regs on them...

    I noticed that too :D

    ......On the 7th I received a phone call that all the paperwork was ready and that my car had been officially approved and that I would receive the permanent German plates later that week. WOW! I got my SC road legal in Germany and getting it approved in Sweden should be a straightforward exercise......In the early morning of Friday 5 April, my daughter M and I arrived at inspection agency "Carspect" in Vårby/Stockholm. We were met by a very brisk technician that without asking us anything virtually immediately said "it's not going to happen". He flat out refused to take a closer a look at the car and chose to ignore all the technical papers and certifications I had with me. Instead, he kept on repeating himself by saying "it's just the way it is" without providing any further explanation. Having done a fair bit of research myself, it was crystal clear to me that he didn't know what rules and exceptions to apply in this case and that it was going to be an uphill battle. This feeling was further strengthened when he finally started showing a few paragraphs of the Swedish vehicle regulation on the screen of his computer and when I pushed him on the fact that I felt he was missing the point entirely and was applying the wrong procedure, he flashed a note from Transportstyrelsen that stated that they felt that the German authorities had incorrectly approved my car and that therefore he wouldn't do anything more. "Så är det bara" ("it's just the way it is") were his famous last words before we were summoned to leave again. No approved car, not even a formal rejection. We were just flabbergasted. Both by this incredibly rude and unprofessional behavior from Carspect (they surely won't see me as their customer anymore!) and the existence of this mysterious note from Transportstyrelsen.........I booked a new appointment for registration inspection the same day as I had received the letter from Transportsyrelsen and on November 4th, I drove to Bilprovningen in Moraberg again. The technician was the same as the previous time in May and greeted me by my name. He then continued stating that he was of the opinion that I had booked the wrong type of inspection. Before the thought "here we go again…" really had the chance to strike me, he said "well, I'm going to just approve the car today. I obviously have already inspected it before and there was nothing wrong with it and now we have the appeal decision from Transportstyrelsen we are good to go". I went in, had a cup of coffee and some 10 minutes later he reappeared holding some papers. Yet again I had to tag along to pay another 1,380 SEK but this time I received a document confirming that my car had passed the inspection. I could hardly believe that I finally succeeded and when I called my wife to tell her the news, it finally started to sink in

    Story in a nutshell - bought 'test/prototype' Saab without EU Conformity cert, Swedish(EU)Transportsyrelsen/ 'NCTS' wouldn't register it so went to Germany where their TÜV/ 'NCTS' passed and registered it so therefore SHOULD have been easy to register it back in Sweden as it was 'secondhand' but .......:rolleyes:

    When I see a Discovery like that on an old-style Irish reg I usually
    do a double-take...almost expecting it to be a foreign registration :D

    A friend of mine sent this one on to me. Form what he could see it looked completely standard (and quite dirty) underneath, but then again he was sitting in his car, so one cant jump to conclusions. Either way, it certainly cuts down the annual tax bill!

    Listed as an 'Unknown Rover'. Think that's a Dublin city reg, guessing '76 or '77 maybe? would that be correct

    What is your problem with this?

    He conformed completely to the rules to register a car on the road in Sweden. He had to go a roundabout way because the Swedish rules don't take certain scenarios into account.

    The car has been verified a proper inspection by TÜV.

    Your concern can't be that the car is not safe for european roads because, TÜV have verified that it is. And anyway it is for all purposes exactly the same as the saloon version.

    Can you explain what your problem is?

    seen an old irish car of my own a few years ago , and its sporting a red paintjob , and from what i could make out it had morphed itself into a pukka RS since i last had it :rolleyes:

    had a look around another local irish car here aswell a few years ago at a show and it hadnt one sign of any of the front panel work that was done at our garage back in the early 90s , indeed it was on its original paint , even though it was painted completely by my Da back then :rolleyes:

    i have pics of both but i wont fan the flames LOL

    i dont actually have a problem with folk using regs like that myself as i hate the look of the farcical zv regs myself , but the whole landrover/range rover type carry on is really a bit too far to be pushing things tbh , i have a few "rotten" cars and id's here myself that ive held onto , sods law though they are no good to the cars i have atm

    indeed there are , did a good few like that myself a good while ago , still have an irish 67/68 mk1 escort reg i kept, i only sold the shell recently as i was fed up looking at it ,,the escort i seen with my old plate was actually down on the logbook as a 2000cc from back in 85/86 when it had a reshell and mostly rs2000 treatment

    Nice 1979 , TR 7 v8 convertible for sale on Done Deal , must be a very rare model especially when they were not sold in 1979 ,

    Altough its probably one of those preproduction models that went missing from BL ., has ZV plates into the bargain price of 6.5 k !.

In early 1979, Triumph belatedly introduced a convertible version, called the TR7 Drophead Coupé (DHC), which first went on sale in the US (the original hardtop model being known as the Fixedhead Coupé, or FHC). A small number of pre-production cars were manufactured at Speke in 1978, soon after the pre-production TR7 V8 (later designated TR8) and TR7 Sprint cars

    Whackypedia to the rescue , does it mention that the TR8 convertibles were nearly all left hand drive and it wasnt until late 1980 that the ragtop went on sale in the UK in its most basic 2L form ,

    A 1979 TR8 convertible RH drive indeed be a very rare car , and would deserve some preservation ,having said that the seller is probably a triumph enthusiast who has spend tens of thousands of euro converting a 79 TR7 from a hardtop to a softtop and fitting a V8 .


    Bit strange to to see such a rare and valuable car in such an environment .
