Pub with a licence up for sale this week at the Allsop Space Auction at the Shelbourne Hotel. Has living quarters overhead. Called the Triple Crown Bar in Athlunkard street. Its reserve is €80k. Had a reserve of €125k at the last auction and did'nt attract a single bid.
Good move you made in 2005. i think it was obvious to many back then that the a##e was about to fall out of it when LIDL and ALDI were paying €150k and more for a licence.

It's a farce of a system really, supermarkets paid 150000 for a licence to sell beer often at below cost in bulk to put a lot of pubs out of business, help destroy a tourism product and damage peoples health as they now buy in bulk.

An example the other night we decided to buy 3 cans each, went up to the centra and ended up buying and drinking 8 cans because it was cheaper.

The only things that seem to be on offer in large multi buy in supermarkets are alcohol and confectionary, which both unhealthy.

Not a cafe, a restaurant. And there are restrictions, such as purchasing food and paying at the same time etc. AFAIK, restaurants must sell food with the wine/beer/spirits and cannot serve them on their own. I'm sure there are ways around that but I think that's the official position.

That's why Mickey McDowell's proposals for new "cafe bar" licences was given the heave ho.

Nah! McDowell's cafe bar proposals got the heave-ho from publicans in FF and their well connected friends in the LVA and VFI.

Almost as funny as the €30,000,000 of taxpayers money he spent on a site for a new prison, that still stands idle and overgrown today. Incidentally the previous owners only expected it to fetch €4 million.
And this guy is supposed to be one of our brightest individuals.

He's a lawyer FFS. He couldn't be expected to have any business acumen. Although, I suppose that's not much different to the school teachers, solicitors, doctors and communists who populate Leinster House.
