    Hello all.
I have a concrete floor ( approx. 10'x 10') which is covered with 9''X 9'' tiles. They are stuck down with adhesive and have been there twenty odd years. They appear to be a kind of hard plastic and are still very well held in place.
I want to replace them with ceramic tiles.

Q: Do I need to take all these tiles up and if so whats the best way to go about it.

    Thanks.

You can tile on top of existing tiles,no problem but i recomand using a good adhesive

The tiles sound like vinyl base tiles common in the 60's and 70's. They are usually stuck down with a thick bitumen.

While you can tile on top of these I would suggest you 'key' them, with a stanley knife or sharp chisel, this helps adhesion of the new tiles. Personally I would remove them, a good wall scraper and some elbow grease will get them up. If you have one, a wide chisel on an SDS makes the job easy peasy.
