Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anybody any ideas on a good netbook? Don't want to get a tablet because he had an iPad and didn't like how there was no USB connection and he couldn't make PowerPoint presentations on it and don't want a laptop as there too big!

This Samsung is a good price and gets good reviews.

Number 1 selling netbook on Amazon

Samsung have great ones, most up to date on the market, and very sleek.
Next best one I find be a Toshiba, have one myself and its lasted so well have it a few years now so have got good mileage out of it. Worth looking into them.

Depends on your budget really, Apple macs versions of a netbook be good - macAir or ibook or something like that if you want to stick with the Apple brand if you want to stick with windows OS then go with a samsung or Toshiba. Sony vao might be another option but a bit pricey for the type of specs they have.

For lower range brands at a reasonable price maybe HP, Acer, Advent or Azus.

Take note of the specs in terms of speed, memory and processor, OS depending what they need it for. If they into programming - windows, multimedia and entertainment - mac os.

Netbooks don't have cd drives so be aware of that, generally they all have USB ports depends on how many they have might vary and if they have a web cam too. The usb ports can connect to many devices if they ever need an external drive/external hard-drive/cd drive its worth getting in case they do need to still use CD-roms and stuff most things you can download at this stage of the internet like virus software and so on.

One other thing, check out for best deals and value for what you are getting. The power and speed of the processors, type of processors and memory sizes vary between netbooks. Get a spec that suits the person you buying it for and what they used things for - work/college/every day use, general use/home use/internet/entertainment/social uses etc.

The most obviously thing here is what is your budget the get the best one on the market, and most importantly check out reviews really help on buying the right netbook for who you are buying for.

Thanks for the replies! I saw that Samsung one but thought it looked a bit basic thou, I guess if its the number one on amazon it should be fine. I've been thinking of this toshiba one, http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/Toshiba_NB510-11H_Netbook_in_Blue_-_Black_With_9_Hours_Battery_Life__PLL72E-022019EN/version.asp

I know nothing about laptops thou is the problem...

My experience is that while netbooks are great with being very small and handy enough to bring around with you, they can be frustrating because sometimes you really need that extra bit of screen space (for example if you're doing work on it).

If its only for around the house, I'd definitely recommend a laptop. If you have a high budget, check out some the slick ultra books such as the sony vaio T series.
