R4i with V1.64b loaded not working on DS XL V1.4.4E

Hi all,

I loaded the latest (Nov 16th 2012) V1.64b kernel onto a V1.4 R4i card and formatted the 4GB SDHC card etc first but the DS XL won't load it at all. The DS XL is running V1.4.4E firmware.

I put the R4i card in an old DS lite and it works fine so I'm assuming its some sort of conflict with V1.4.4E but not sure what my next step should be.

I came across a similar problem with an AceKard 2i previously which was easily resolved by running a special NDS file on the card in an old DS lite which updated the firmware or something similar??

Any suggestions how to solve this problem and get the XL working?

Is that the latest firmware?
Nintendo permanently blocked a huge amount of flashcarts with a recent firmware update. The only ones that still work as far as I know are the DSTWO and certain versions of the r4i gold.
