Hi guys, just thought I'd chance my arm on here if anyone has/knows an apartment I could rent for a month in Melbourne. approx 17th Dec-13th Jan.

From research online I can only find very expensive holiday rental apartments that are blowing me out of the water budget-wise as I'm a student.

I'm heading over to see my OH and her friend who is travelling Oz and we're both arriving in Melbourne to meet so she doesn't have accommodation already and a hostel for Christmas isn't exactly my cup of tea.

I have a budget of approx 1900 dollars to rent a 2 bed apartment (1 double bed and a single). Preferably near st. Kilda as I also have a brother who is staying there but I'm not really picky, just getting desperate the closer it looms to my flights.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any suggestions or even better an apartment to rent.(maybe a friend who's is away for chistmas to sub-let?)

You're trying to get a short-term furnished 2-Bed with bills included (I assume) in Melbourne for $475 per week?

Best of luck with that. Gumtree or Air BnB is your best bet but tbh, I wouldn't be holding out much hope.

Essentially yes, but rather looking for something that isn't classed as a "holiday home" with the premium associated with such.

What kind of money "per week" would you think I would need to be looking at to find a place?

Well Gumtree tells me you could expect to pay between $400 and $500 per week for a one-bedroom apartment in St Kilda area over xmas.

This isn't the "holiday home" rental with a premium attached. This is people going home for the holidays and looking for someone to cover their rent while they are away.

That's why I said you'd be hard pushed to find something for your budget. Because NO ONE pays $475 for a two-bedroom apartment in St Kilda.

But try Gumtree regularly as you may find a bargain. ie someone deciding last minute to rent our their room/apartment while they go home. Widen your area as well. Don't just go for the backpacker areas like St Kilda as they are generally more expensive.

And possibly have a hostel back-up, particularly for Xmas and New Years as hostels charge a massive premium for those nights and you could end up spending more than you'd budgeted for.

Give Jackson apartments a ring. They specialise in short term accommodation in St Kilda. You'll have to put up a bond of one weeks rent but you'll get it back when you leave provided you give them a weeks notice. They're a good bunch to deal with.

Other then that you'll struggle to find somewhere in St Kilda for the price you're looking at. Its an extremely popular area so renting is expensive

You'll pay for Jackson Apartments but they're likely to have something for you. They are a good crowd to deal with. Just make sure the apartment is not on Jackson Street in St. Kilda. Not too nice to say the least, especially for the money! It was one of their studio's which I believe haven't been refurbished in a few years. I think Markymark21 said in older posts that the 2 bedroom's have been refurbished so you should be ok. Correct me if I'm wrong markymark21.

I know people who pay $475/week for a 2 bedroom apartment in St Kilda.

Unless your talking short term rentals, wouldnt have a clue what the cost of that is.

I meant $475 per week for a fully furnished which includes all their bed linen, utensils and bills.

Because I thought that's what the OP was looking for.

Are your friends apartments furnished? $475 per week is pretty cheap if so.

No unfurnished - I understand now.

OP your best bet is that someone going home for a month or 6 weeks wants you to cover their rent while they are at home. Maybe put an ad on boards or gumtree and see
