Hi, we have 4 children aged between 8 and 3 coming to my parents house and sleeping over on Christmas day. There is a room in our basement where we plan on letting them all sleep together as when I was a kid I loved sharing a room with my cousins at Christmas.

I was thinking of putting up a tent in there and covering it in fake snow blanket thingys to make it look a little like an igloo and decorating the room with some giant snow flakes etc but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas of how we can make this room like a magical place so that they will be happy to stay in there while we are partying and also that they mite not want to leave too early in the morning when we are all hungover!

get white twinkly lights and if there are any poles there, wrap them around the poles. Get the little glitter stars (that you usually have on a table for decoration) and sprinkle them on the floor. Get some muslin and drape it in front of the twinkling lights on the walls poles, for a snowy effect, get some branches from a local wood and place them in vases around the room.

lots of white paper pom poms hanging from the ceiling

fluffy woollen pom poms so they can have a snowball fight. These are easy to make too so you could set up an arts and crafts area so they can make them themselves. Also glitter. Lots of glitter.

Turn the radiators off in that room for a real Winter Wonderland feel. ;)

Got this link from Buzzfeed who have a 51 decs you can make at home section. Could be just right for your winter wonderland!

Though of course, in my day we just turned a couple of chairs back to back and put a sheet over them.

I am attempting the same thing, this year. I am looking to decorate in a winter wonderland style. The suggestions I have so far is dangle snowflakes from the ceiling. Get some icicle snow blanket style from 1.50 shops and place around the room at the top near the ceiling. Look for polar bears and penguins to add the feel of a winter wonderland. I would also suggest...incorporating led blue lights with some white lights too. White or blue trees.

I would suggest making the entrance to it fun, so it feels like they are entering a magical world. I don't know what though to suggest in this regard, but you get the idea anyways.

Just a couple of links with ideas. Have fun and Happy Christmas to you :)

Saw these in Maplin the other day, not sure if they're suitable for inside, but it does say good for parties. You buy the bottles of stuff to put in it.
