Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Long exposure / grey card

I acquired some sheets of welding glass plate and am about to faf around with some very long exposures, for shiz and giggles. I know the colour cast is going to be from hell and so I'm going to shoot a grey card first to help with the while balance in post.

What I want to know first is if I need to expose the grey card for the same length of time that I'll be taking the actual shot at - or can I shorten the exposure time just for the grey card by increasing the ISO and opening up the aperture? Once I do it stop for stop (the reciprocity thingy) so that the exposure remains the same can I shorten the length of exposure just for the grey card and then go back to a much longer exposure for the actual shot?

Just typing that out clarified my thoughts. Exposure is exposure is exposure. Once the 3 variables add up to the same exposure then the grey card will always be the same. I can tweek the aperture, shutter speed and ISO to my hearts content and as long as I maintain the same exposure.
    Right?

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.
