That has been Philip since the very first episode when he was at the mall with Paige. He tried on the cowboy boots and had a sneaky little solo line dance. It was drawn to a halt when he saw the creeper forcefully coming on to 13 year old Paige.

The first episode of this season drew a lot of parallels with the pilot. First Philip's line dancing and secondly a creeper coming on to Paige making a senior Jennings take on a secret solo mission to punish them. Though Elizabeth just straight up killed the navy creeper while Philip settled for sticking a barbecue fork through mall creeper's hand.

ep 1 the fbi guys have really loose lips if their partners are gossiping about their case, ridiculous!

    6.03

Off with the blood whilst Philip, the voice of experience, schools Paige. Henry's call enough to put the spy stuff aside, momentarily. Elizabeth's calmer chat with Paige was in the full glare of sunshine, easier to talk then. There was also Philip's emphasis on 'had access' with the theme of finality burning throughout - Elizabeth's self-talk carried this too. Meanwhile in the travel agency it's motivation for repeat customers, Philip worked a few marks in the past, right? And bills to pay. Asylum drills down the family level, earlier we touched on how our two leads are far, far away from home. Except for that occasional glimpse - hence zharkoye a la Tupperware. I assume web searches for this recipe have jumped significantly in the past 24 hours - the show's obsessed with food. Don't forget that salt over the shoulder. Handy that Elizabeth was able to sit very close to Glen's table.

And after Elizabeth's confident security audit persona another body drops.

    I thought
she was gonna let yer man live

the music and the scene just felt like it was all done so well

the rest of the episode felt like plot development

    Think so.

I'm leaning that one of the two dies. More than likely to save the others. Maybe both for the kids.

We still don't know what's up with Renee.

We still don't know what's up with Renee.

I reckon she's from the cia. They weren't too happy with Stan stopping them from turning Oleg and want to keep a close eye on him.

Elizabeth is killing everyone this year LOL

Yeah she's on the rampage this year. The pizza delivery guy is next I reckon. I think it's a bit OTT in that regard in the moment, but I guess it shows that she's beginning to lose her handle on things and starting to get sloppy. It's always been a slightly comedic element of the show for me that they can kill people fairly indiscriminately and yet never really be in any fear of feeling the swarthy arm of law enforcement on their shoulder.

Anyone listening to the podcasts from Slate? They're pretty good, they have interviews with the show runners each week and usually with either the actors or someone involved in the production, gives a lot of insight into the making of the show.

I had assumed that too last season but I doubt that a CIA agent would marry an FBI agent in order to covertly spy on him. That just seems way too out there in terms of internal security, especially once Stan left counterintelligence.

And FBI agents don't kidnap Russian diplomats and shoot them in the back of the head while they eat a burger but it's a tv show that while excellent, plays fast and loose with real life procedure at times. Either way, since the time jump I don't think we can expect Renee to be an American agent, CIA, NSA, OPR, etc. At some point in the last 3 years she and Stan have gotten married (they are both wearing wedding rings that have been clearly seen at various times in the last 3 episodes) and I don't think an American agent would be so willing to marry and spend years living with a spouse they are investigating. Date him for a few months, sure, actually marry him and live full-time (not popping in and out like "Clark" was with Martha) as his wife, I just don't see it.

S06E04: Bit of a filler episode. Not really a fan of the story line building that Philips intervention will help to end the Cold War.

One interesting possibility now open is a 21st century spin off series with Paige working in the CIA for Putin.

    Elizabeth so tired! SO TIRED!

I wonder will it be one of the employees ripping Philips company off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,619 ✭✭✭California Dreamer

Looking at Elizabeth and the fact that she is so tired all the time. Is this being set up for a major mistake on her part? Will it lead to her death or even Paige?

The storyline involving Philip and the travel agency is boring as whale ****, he may as not be in it this season. He doesn't stand up to Elizabeth and he used to be as hard as she is. Now he just looks whipped!!

I also listen to the slate podcasts. The interviews with the show runners are really interesting.

6.04 i.e. family fractures continue after the show's ground work from previous years.

The walk in the park in an effort to preserve progress. Oleg and Philip have something common. A night time breach with no let up in operations for Elizabeth, the radio static signals and that familiar alarm whirr we know from TV and films gone by. We're back in the Jennings' kitchen where so many key moments happen "is this how it is?". Ouch. Paige, you were warned not to mix things, and quite right, what would you know about "the world"? Philip revisits his rock star, sorry, I mean, Jim. Seize the day. Is E warning up to the art, or is it just a mask? That large painting seemed to get to her. The vomiting was a little unsettling too. With talk of "arrivals and departures" being about more than urban transportation. The Soviet fear of propaganda and Time magazine. Tailing Stan's asking for trouble. And as this episode was keen to note, whether it's capitalism or communism, rules and accountability are always there, if not the same.

The Slate podcasts are good. Interesting without being self-indulgent. I don't listen to anything else similar re behind the scenes and normally you don't get much access to showrunners beyond puff pieces. I presume FX back them in some capacity as John Landgraf on there before. Nice little return to fans of a fairly small show.

Great episode (#5), momma is one heck of a cold blooded killer.

Is this the end for Philip, surely they have Kimmys phone tapped?

You don't need to use spoiler tags once the episode has aired.^^

Multiple times I was just like.. Philip is gonna die but that ending... damn.. it felt like.. BTW IN CASE YOU DIDN'T NOTICE, PHILIP GONNA DIE

Apart from that, they ordered things well to get a few woahs, like:
    - woah, Paige kickin ass
    - woah, DAMN Elizabeth
    - woah, Philip teachin Paige like that.. ugh.. Philip gonna die
    - Yikes, Phone Call, Philip gonna die!

Quite a striking episode, matters of conscience continue and relocation complaints abound. The 27 million Russians killed in WWII tells its own story in terms of obscured history. On that front, someone give Elizabeth a job as a textbook editor. You could the response to Claudia's losses too. Stan got to play delivery man. As soon as Elizabeth got into that apartment you knew the it was the bloody scene from trailer for this season. Is that the cue for Stan to return in his old post? They have to tell us about Renee soon, right? Kim's situation pointed to the stakes at play. Paige vs drunk ****head cue Soviet ninja instincts. "Were you drinking? It's a bar" and then later the line about sleeping with people, sheesh! Nice to see Tatiana again, though it's tricky for Oleg. And of course the scene with Paige and Philip and 'no pads'. Damn. And that ending, burning the op. Still, they lightened things up with Claudia being hammered. :pac:

I wonder will Philip give them up to Stan in the end.

In thinking he might now that there looks to be a rift

That was my favourite episode in a long time. Best of this season and better than anything from last season.

There's something about Elizabeth's cigarette habit which makes me think that could end up leading Stan to her...a smoking gun as it were! The scene where she asked Gennadi did he have a light just brought it up again for me. Probably nothing but just a little feeling I have about it.

The Philip v Paige fight scene was incredible. And the tension levels when queen bitch was hiding in Gennadi and Sofia's house was off the charts. Can't wait to see the next one.

Kim was under age, maybe younger than Paige when Jim first met her, iirc.

There has to be some sort of catalyst at this stage, right? The arc of the characters, the show's history, final swing of the season brewing, but then it's slow burn and who knows.

Btw, the promos are very deceptive and lines of dialogue are swapped around to fit certain look/atmosphere in scenes, only when the thing airs do you realise they were messing us about.

Is there only a few episodes of the show left?

I'm wondering will Stan stumble on something and then Elizabeth decides he has to go but Philip steps in and tips him off.

I can see Elizabeth and the crew going down but Philip and Paige going free.

Yep. We're into the home stretch now.

Only 5 Episodes Left. No word of a spin-off (Paige or otherwise) yet.

I highly doubt there would be a spin off, at least not with paige as the lead, she's just not that interesting.

There should be a poll to guess the ending

Is there any way Philip gets trapped in a sting by the FBI after tipping off the young girl or is he too smart for that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,444 ✭✭✭DMcL1971

I havent listened yet but it would be nice to hear how they dealt with the Jim/Kimmy sex scene in the slate podcast.

When we first met Kimmy it was 1982 and she was around the same age as Paige. The show is now in 1987 so five years have passed. She is well over the age of consent now although I am sure that Philip still feels pretty concerned about it as he sees her as being like Paige.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭iguana

Kim was under age, maybe younger than Paige when Jim first met her, iirc.

She was 15 when he met her in late 82. It's now late 87, just a few weeks off 5 years since her introduction, so Kimmy is 20. She is slightly older than Paige as Paige turned 15 around the time Kimmy was introduced and Kimmy was already talking about how soon she would be 16. Paige is 19 now but would be about a month or so off 20.

With 5 episodes to go I am still waiting to see where Oleg fits into all of this. He hasn't really been up to too much this season.

losing all sympathy for Elizabeth,Surely, she cant live happily ever after at the end?

I agree, there was a time when Elizabeth enjoyed the killing as it was for the greater country. But now it seems like its just a spiral downwards. One can speculate that she suspects that she will eventually go the same way.

6.06 - A lot of pieces on the board right now...

Yet again with the kitchen scenes and barbs. We got a whole bunch of Henry (mortifying how parents behave in public, eh?), with everyone bar Stan lying to him. Elizabeth in recruitment mode and another dynamite phone call at the end. We have some idea of what's festering in Philip's head, but not entirely. Props to Aderholt - he's thorough. Stan made that speech a mere arm's length from two spies. FBI food porn also kicked in later!

The pure feckin' cheek of Mail Robot. :pac::pac:

Could see Elizabeth being in risk there until Philip got called in.

Seeing a possibility that Stan will be the one to get them but Renee being the wildcard there.

Again with the sense of feeling that Philip is gonna die.

Not sure what the deal with Henry is. Maybe just to have him around for the showdown. Possibly to throw in front of Stan because they kinda have an attachment.

Thinking now that Oleg and his Dad ain't gonna come out of the Cold War in good shape.

Even by this show's standards, and that's quite a bar, the butchery of scene with the axe. Christ.
