Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Turn by Turn Navigation with Offline Maps

    Hi folks,

I just bought an iPhone. I live in France so navigation here with online maps using Waze is fine, but I travel to Ireland a good bit and would like a navigation app with offline maps when I'm in Ireland where I won't have a data connection.

I've trawled the web but it's difficult to wade through the apple maps vs. google maps discussion to find if there is a good app out there to do it. I'd also like to know if there is an app out there to do what I want, does it do Ireland/Dublin well?

Would be grateful for any suggestions. I'm not averse to spending money if something works well.

I have Navigon, haven't used it in Ireland but it works great around the rest of Europe.

GPS Navigation 2 Looks like it's a decent competitor. The latest version has excellent reviews but before that they seem a little mixed. Anyone any experience of this?

I hold my hands up...I used to use Tom Tom maps on my jailbroken iphone and found it absolutely brilliant. Hell even in Poland my taxi driver used it to take him to our hotel in Warsaw coming from Lodz.
I ended up buying the full version to avoid losing my favourites etc every time but I suppose it's worth it..still expensive but you can get the Irish version for €60 I think.
However you can't upgrade from say Ireland/Uk to the Western Europe Bundle or Europe bundle which is disgraceful
I really wish they had done a bundle deal for the tom tom kit for iphone and apps as expecting people to lash out 180 or so on it is taking the piss.

Some people have issues with it but I've used it to get to Dublin several times while making purchases off online buyers and each time it's got me right to their doorstep and home again....
And this is how bad I am at directions..I even got lost in a hotel last week :D
I'd be lost without it. and I mean that literally :D

I found it crap and gave up on it in the end..even with the supposedly offline maps which I downloaded it still tried to get online.

NavFree is a decent one. It uses OSM for map data so, in general it's quite good and I've never had a problem with it (even in some parts off the beaten track in Co. Clare)
It has gotten much better over time.

    +1
It may not necessarily bring you the quickest route (may bring you down main street in a town rather than take the bypass, etc), but it will get you where you want to go
