Jazz legend Dave Brubeck passed away today one day before his 92nd birthday.

His quartet's most famous piece was Take Five, which was actually penned by sax player Paul Desmond. Many of his tunes bore strange time signatures, such as Take Five's 5/4 and the 7/4 of Unsquare Dance.

He's gone off to music heaven to be reunited with Desmond, who passed away 35 years' ago.

just had a great, if badly kept, time trying to dance to "Unsquare Dance" all around the house. RIP.

I'm sure he enjoyed some great times. Some album in a tense time.

Unsquare Dance is great - Gilles Peterson played it in honor of the great man on 6music yesterday afternoon. I'm lucky to have had the pleasure of seeing him live back in 2004, and he could certainly still play the piano!

And Joe Morello, who passed in 2011
