It's one of those where it could have been a free-out. Clever play from Samaras to draw the challenge but it's him who actually makes contact, dragging his knee into the Benfica defender to ensure contact.

Not a dive exactly, but not really a penalty.

Samaras threw his left leg at the defender. It's the kind of thing if Bale or Suarez did it everyone would be up in arms.

Samaras made contact, not the Benfica defender. Like I said earlier, it was clever play by him, but he certainly bought the penalty.
