What a shame it wasnt bid for by germany or italy. Is it not strange it wasnt? both havent hosted in ages. Does it not make economic sense for them? If they had bid they would have beem guaranteed as host. This format came about due to lack of quality hosts

Absolutely terrible idea, although the bigger issue is expanding an exciting, competitive tournament of 16 teams to the larger format of 24 teams, which invariably will allow dross like Northern Ireland and even Scotland to qualify!!!

Wales have not applied for the latter stages by the looks of things.

Would be great to see Dublin get a couple of games and you could argue that one group is based between Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Denmark, Sweden and Netherlands could be another cluster.

Looking at the others you can apply the same logic. I think Baku and St. Petersburg are possibly too isolated, but I guess it all depends on who qualifies etc.

Hungary (Budapest) Israel (Jerusalem) Azerbaijan (Baku) Italy (Rome) Spain (Bilbao) are probably the worst off if that's the way they look to go

    G & KO
    Bulgaria (Sofia)
    Romania (Bucharest)
Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (Skopje)

    Republic of Ireland (Dublin)
    Scotland (Glasgow)
    Wales (Cardiff) or England (London)

    Belgium (Brussels)
    Netherlands (Amsterdam)
    Denmark (Copenhagen)

    & maybe
    Russia (Saint Petersburg)
    Sweden (Stockholm)
    Belarus (Minsk)

    SF & F
    Germany (Munich)

i think i thought it was stupid/a bad idea at first but is it really going to be any worse than brazil or USA 94?
ireland went jersey/orlando/jersey then back to orlando, had they won to dallas then out to cali

Do people think Dublin has a decent chance of getting a few games?

That's their own fault and their problem. They should be told to f*ck off. Sick of worrying about Sligo Rovers drawing one of their teams in Europe.

    Same goes for Kazakhstan.

Don't worry, St Pat's Athletic are in Europe this year, they'll cover ya.

Yes looking at the shortlist I'd say one of the 6 groups will be split between Dublin and Cardiff.
    Others could be Glasgow/London, Copenhagen/Stockholm, Brussels/Amsterdam, Skopje/Sofia and Budapest/Bucharest.
    Semis and Finals in Munich.

Poland and Russia miss out as recently hosted entire tournaments.
Spain and Italy miss out and told to bid for entire competitions like the big boys they are.
Azeri and Israel are both too isolated, Minsk is unlucky.

Think that all the bidders catered for.

I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't tbh. Good location, we can't hold the Euros by ourselves, other cities around us are also bidding and have a good chance to get games so makes it easy for teams with travelling and setting up a basecamp.

It is a stupid concept. UEFA decided out of nowhere to up the criteria for hosting a tournament. To the point where fúck all contries in Europe meet that criteria.
Turkey was well able to host the tournament, but UEFA couldn't hold on to find out the suss with there Olympic bid.

Germany can hold any tournament at a drop of a hat btw.

An all over Europe Euros is a stupid idea and it ruins the concept of culture. Fúck UEFA in this regard.
    Hate the idea.
    Will never support it.

There is no different to the World Cup in 94 in fact it would be less travel

Also a throw back to how it was, teams playing each other home and away before one place held the semi finals and final

London/Dublin or Cardiff or Glasgow, maybe, if Munich are awarded the Final/Semi-final package. That will depend on which teams qualify and what groups they're in and seeding.
For the group stage, a maximum of two host teams will be drawn into each group, with each qualified host team guaranteed to play two home matches in the group stage. However, there is no guarantee that a host team will play any knockout matches at home. The composition of teams in the group stage will still be subject to seeding and draw, but the allocation of host teams to each group will take into account of travel distances (flights between host cities in the same group should not exceed two hours).

At least 94 was held in one country.

It's not the travel I have an issue with, it's the all over Europe tournament that's the problem.

Why do you have a problem with it being spread over Europe ?

Cos it's an idea that UEFA came up with and as we all know ideas that UEFA come up with are stupid and nothing more than money grabbing exercises.

And the latest speculation is that Germany may withdraw their bid before the vote next Friday in favour of a bid to host the entire Euro 2024 tournament.

Turkey were the favourites to host the Euro2020 final tournament but instead they went with Michel Platini's proposal to host it across several cities in Europe

Istanbul was also bidding to host the 2020 Olympics. For a period of time it looked like they were favourites for it. Uefa said they could not have the Euros and the Olympics. Uefa were not happy with the bids coming from other countries so decided to host it in several countries.

Big day. Hope we get it.
I actually felt a bit sorry for the FAI when we had the Europa. Their big day was completely overshadowed by the queen visit and Braga weren't exactly a big draw.
Hope this will be a great series of events for Dublin and Irish football.

Would be good for the city & country as a whole, but I'd love to see Delaney's face if we get refused.

London picked to host the Semis and Final. We'll probably be last out (if we get it)

Is that 3 different grounds in London, or Semi at Wembley and another one, then the final at Wembley, or all games at Wembley?

Minimum of two home games if they qualify. We'll probably be grouped with Glasgow. So we'll have two matches in Dublin and Scotland will have two matches in Hampden and then the Ireland-Scotland game in either venue - whatever way they decide that - seeding I'd imagine

I wonder how far we will have to travel for the other 3 games :D

So 12 years on from the embarrassing failure of the Ireland/Scotland Euro 2008 bid Dublin are getting as many games as they probably would have in 2008
