Was surprised to see that Sterling got Star of the match yesterday.

Wonder if Robbie is getting 250k a year for that role too?

I hope so… the more money he has the more money that will trickle down to us common men.

With de Ligt carrying a knock it made sense at two up. Think they even mentioned it on the Rte commentary.
De Lift? He wasn't playing and he didn't come on. Changing two players on the same side of the formatiin at the same time is going to disrupt things.

What I meant was that they were already without one centre half and thought that 2-0 is a good time to wrap another one up in cotton wool whilst getting minutes into Ake who missed a lot of football last season. 9 times out of 10 you get away with it and it's good game management.

Yeah it'd be fine bringing on Ake but pulling off Van Aanholt at the exact same time seemed risky. Blind was playing on the left side of the back three and Van Aanholt as left wing back.

A journalist on a podcast last night said England's performance yesterday was their best at a tournament since 2002.

Were they really that good? I thought they were decent in fairness but Croatia were very poor and offered zero goal threat.

Surely that's a red card offence!?

They were solid, nothing more, nothing less.

To be honest, I think it's typical English media hyping a mediocre performance. Best at a tournament in 19 years is a bit of a stretch.

Honestly the English journalists have been so giddy on the podcasts I've listened to that I genuinely think they are incapable of watching the games outside the context of being a fan.

Tierney injured for Scotland, big loss.

I didn’t hear the journalist but assume he meant in the sense that it was more of a tournament performance, clean sheet, kept the ball well, not overly troubled etc.

I thought it was a solid performance, nothing more nothing less but when you think about England’s performances the last 20 years it doesn’t sound that outrageous. The best game I remember England playing in that time is France in 2004, and we still lost!!!

First time England have ever won an opening game at the Euros. Even we've done that ;)

He gets injured an awful lot.

    Teams:
Scotland XI: Marshall; Hanley, Cooper, Hendry; O'Donnell, Armstrong, McGinn, McTominay, Robertson; Dykes, Christie.

Czech Republic XI: Vaclik; Coufal, Celustka, Kalas, Boril; Soucek, Kral; Masopust, Darida, Jankto; Schick.

Shame Tierney is missing. I like their midfield. Hope they can start off with a win.

As an Arsenal fan I’m not surprised.

Going for a narrow Scotland win

Duff: "Christie has one of the best left feet I has ever seen"

Doyle: "Some people say McGinn is as good as Grealish... "

They come out with some waffle

He has an arse almost as big as Grealish.

Well McGinn was up there with Grealish before his injury. Just starting to come back to that level at the end of the season.

Belted out Flower of Scotland with some passion. Great stuff.

And sent him homewards tae tink again.

Last minute Scotland winner, for me. McTominay.

Without any doubt the best anthem to sing pre game. Brilliant and Friday will be superb also.

    I'll go for 1-0 Scotland.

Alex Kral. Plays for Spartak Moscow.

    He's very handy.

Anytime Duff is on as a pundit I'm always left with the feeling that I wouldn't trust him coaching an u12s team let alone anything at a professional level.

Feels like he's being forced to appear, himself and Doyle are terrible pundits

Nice move there by the Czechs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

The Czechs growing into the game. Good effort by Schick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,199 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Great counter there by the Scots. Nicely balanced game. Czechs looking a bit better technically, but there’s always danger if they leave space behind.

    <edit>
Weird choice from O’Donnell there! Christie does brilliant work dribbling through and O’Donnell just runs straight into him to kill the move.

I haven't seen Scotland play since we played them in qualifiers. They are looking a lot better than I imagined they'd be.

    Should've done better there Robertson.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Thought that was going to be the opener.

Think that was a poor effort by Robertson

They've a decent set of players with some playing at high level clubs. Been playing well for a while now.

Tierney is a loss for them

They could do with a striker though

It was, dunno how the commentator thought it was a good effort. Right idea, poor execution :(

Surprised to see Adams starting on the bench, had a decent season and looks a better option than Dykes

I see another bleached head out there, just as bad as Foden!

Didn't the whole Romania team bleach their heads for the 1998 world cup

Got creamed out of it on more than a few occasions in the qualifying group.

The defense wouldn't be massively confidence inspiring

But they are in a decent place really. Especially compared to ourselves.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭SharpshooterTom

This game is evidence that expanding the tournament beyond 16 teams wasnt necessarily a good idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Feck. It's a Schick burn.

Yeah, really weird one! Adams would seem a better foil for Christie, and sometime you’d fancy to take a chance.

Good option on the bench I guess, but would’ve thought you’d want him starting.

    <edit>
    Czechs score :(
