Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Love him or loathe him

He's a machine and has dragged himself up from having nothing as a child

    Fair play

What's with the Hungary fans in the black t-shirts? Some angry guys in there. What is the symbolism of the t-shirt?
Is it just their away kit or something?

Ultras. Hungary has quite a history of nationalist right wing populism.

Am I the only one that thinks Ronaldo's WC total of seven goals (and Messi with six) is a bit underwhelming given the amount of records he has broken?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Portugal have set themselves up well for the rest of the group. Pressure on the others now.

    Teams for the evening game:
France XI: Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Kimpembe, Hernandez; Pogba, Kante, Rabiot; Griezmann; Mbappe, Benzema.

Germany XI: Neuer; Ginter, Hummels, Rudiger; Kimmich, Kroos, Gundogan, Gosens; Havertz, Muller, Gnabry.

Benzema fit to start up top. Pleased to see Gosens picked as he deserves a chance.

Really excited for this game. When I did that UEFA tournament predictor thingy I had these two teams meeting in the final.

    I'll go for a 1-1 draw.

It sounds weird but I don't think either played on good International sides. Portugal had an average team that a few player elevated into a Euros winning team against the odds. Argentina should be so much better than they are but they looked average all the way to that world cup final and have never really been able to turn their amazing players into a team

106 international goals for Ronaldo and counting. Phenomenal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,773 ✭✭✭jimmytwotimes 2013

    Can't wait for this match.

France easily look strongest team in competition but who knows how it'll play out

    Absolutely.

How come a full stadium? 2 countries involved. Surely not the same restrictions in both.

Very little, if any restrictions in Hungary.

France 2-0 maybe 2-1 is my guess. A cagey one.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

    Richie and Didi.

The A team for the big game. Wonder will they do the final too.

I know that but Portuguese there too going back to Portugal.
I suppose what I'm asking is have UEFA no generalised rules?

It's all about the €€€€€€€€€€ for UEFA.

What happens back home in individual countries is of no concern to them.

I fancy Germany in this one.

That French team is horribly balanced.

God I hate the use of green screen when showing us the team lineups. Even RTE at it now.

Isn't it set up nearly identical to the WC winning team ?
Very few different players in it either from ,think 8 of the players who started the final 3 years ago are there tonight.

Really fancy France , Hummels ageing and slow at the back , think the front 3 can do some serious damage .

Kante probably wondering why the paused the camera so long on his face during the anthem there.

I am eating my dinner and saw Yogi Luv and it turned my stomach. The memory of him picking his nose and eating the findings.

Does George not realise that Hernandez plays for Bayern too? Surely a commentator should know that

Did someone parachute into the stadium before kick off?

I’ve seen the game stopped twice in the past couple of days for the ball hitting the ref but it got ignored there for some reason

Wonder what the odds are on a red card in the game. .kimmich will be in trouble on a yellow against mbappe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,461 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

I’d love to see Germany go in front.

Would make the Group of Death even more interesting!

I had to rewind. Yes someone did. Nothing wrong with Royal Irish's observation skills.

How very random! The security didn't seem overly concerned either.

Mbappe has been hanging around with neymar too much. The diving is awful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,156 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Another pointless offside delay in flagging Muller

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,108 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

Havertz would want to wake up, zero awareness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,773 ✭✭✭jimmytwotimes 2013

Pavard pushing well up the pitch on last attack and Griezmann dropping into pocket of space he vacated

No I was agreeing! I seen it too.
ITV didn't remark on it anyway.

Love ball from Pogba to Hernandez.

Not surprised that France are ahead, they've started with a lot more energy.

Ronnie doesn't think Pogba meant that pass. Not sure about that. If he meant it, it was superb.

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Haley Deafening Shortchange

Kimmich may as well have been sat on my lap.

He hadn't a clue what was going on around him.

Lovely pass by Pogba for goal

If the ball goes back to the team that was in possession then its play on.
Ref in the England game wrongly blew up when modric was through on goal and nothing made of it.

France have been the better team so far this half and deserve to be winning. I just hope they can keep doing it.

If it was anyone else I wonder would Ronnie have made that remark? The fact that he said "others will say different" suggests he probably feels deep down Pogba meant it. Strange.
