Ipad bought in London ok in hand luggage ?

just occurred to me, presume I can carry it in hand luggage without any customs issues ?

It was bought in Apple store london at full price & I have the receipt

bought inside the EU ergo not susceptible to Irish VAT and import duty.

That's possible given that they ask you to remove laptops from their bags and send them through separately. It will show up on the scanner and the security person may ask to look at it.

A small electronics item like a portable radio doesn't seem to bother them, you could chance it but there is a possibility that you'll be asked to open the box and let them examine it so if it's a gift and still sealed I'd be prepared to be asked to open the carton

Even if you were coming in from outside the EU you'd be alright (unless you bought the 64gb model) as you're allowed bring in €430 worth of stuff before you have to declare it for duty. Presuming you've bought nothing else as well of course.
