Huh? Pretty much every attack he does is very easily avoided if you know your rolling. He's not tough after that

i was barely able to avoid the majority of his attacks and I normally roll through all the bosses so I have an idea of when the timing is.. this ****er I just couldn't get past though

    he's dead now anyway, prick.

for some reason even through there were loads of red summon signs outside his chamber, only npcs came out of his mirror

Rolling in this game is more precise. Try to go by feels. When he swoops that's the time to roll. It is a little harder to get used to after the generous timing window from Dark Souls but when you utilise rolling it is pretty much a mainstay. For example to kill The Rotten on NG+ and beyond, rolling is really required to keep stamina and make a fast attack back. As long as you are under 70% you have a good roll speed. It's such a great skill to have if you can do it right.

Is everyone aware of the hidden phantom in Aldias keep?
You hit a painting in the hall with the cages near the 2nd bonfire and he's behind it.

He drops a scimitar called the Monastery Scimitar, it's the best parry tool in the game if you weld it in your left hand. It's a rare drop and you need an ascetic to farm it, couldn't believe my luck when it dropped first time for me last night :D

He also drops the Painted Guardian set from the first game.

Is this ng+? I found out about the paintings by accident in my playthrough but don't remember a phantom. Deadly

Yeah don't think he's there on NG.

    That answers that question.

Was clearing out the area, must have
    hit the painting
without realising it and carried on down the hallway - got taken out by him.
Had no idea what happened, even checked "players met" to see if someone invaded without me noticing it.

Must return and ascetic the bonfire to check.

Has anyone used ascetics much? Fancy throwing a few done tonight for a bit of a challenge. Just not sure where to do it yet.

This is probably going to seem like sacrilegious to you lot but I've been thinking... If Dark Souls' difficulty, combat and levelling could be put into the Skyrim's world somehow and done right, it would be possibly a perfect game

3 or 4 in Majula bonfire, won't make any enemies more powerful btu will give you access to NG+++ armor

I don't think so. I don't even equate Skyrim and Dark Souls as similar games, both feel entirely different. I have tried to do Skyrim in a more traditional style (map off, no fast travel, hard mode) but it just doesn't translate like that.

My biggest complaints about Skyrim would be its lack of challenge, the world levelling with you being the worst invention in gaming history. My biggest complaint about Dark Souls would be its almost non-existent story line and somewhat clunky controls. If the two could be married... just a thought.

Dark Souls combat in Skyrim would give me a reason to sink another 100 or so hours into it again, but if you think DS has clunky controls? Atleast you can pull a rhythm, Skyrims is a clicky mess compared to it.

Calling all modders, listen to Grimebox, and get on this ****!

They have a few mods that do a lock on system, it's pretty cool looking.

How do you get the item under the bridge in the huntsman's copse? Do you just drop off the bridge onto it?

I used them to get lucietel and Benharts achievements and also on the first Aldias keep bonfire because there's 2 petrified dragon bones that are easily accessible.

Used like 4 in the Dragon Eerie trying to get a pyromancy to drop... Never did get it. The second one isn't nearly a different as the first, if you understand. Level 2 enemies have much more Health and hit much harder than level one, whereas level 3 is only a slight bit more over level 2, and so on..

Which pyro? I have all of them and never had to farm.

I've forgotten the name of it, I didn't realise there was a scroll for it at the time, it's one of the more powerful ones

I have a VAC ban from another game. I reckon I'll never get to play online

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

They've said that's fixed, didn't they? I vaguely remember seeing something saying that VAC bans in other games shouldn't effect online play in this.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,997 ✭✭✭Grimebox

I don't think so. They mentioned they are aware of the issue. It didn't work last night anyway. I am not hopeful of it being fixed any time soon. I've been trying to get in touch for a refund for some time now, but I'm too far into the game to start over I think.

    From yesterday:
We don't have any new information regarding VAC bans at this time, we would just like to assure everyone that we intend to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We're working with FromSoftware towards a resolution. Thanks for hanging in there.

Have you tried adding -tcp to launch options?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,403 ✭✭✭spiritcrusher

What do ye reckon for staffs and chimes? I'm using archdrake staff and chime both +10 right now. I've got the black witches staff which looks like it'll be better than the archdrake one when upgraded but I'm also wondering switching to a more "specialist" staff and chime, i.e., one of the pure hex, miracle or sorcery types.
Thing is I use a bit of a mix of the various spell types at the moment so I'd probably have to give up using some of them to get the most damage out of the others, if that makes any sense, but can't have everything!
They all look so tempting though..!

Enhance the chime with lighning for uber lightning damage.

    Yeah no change.

Either this game is easier or I've gotten far, far better at managing myself in this. I beat another boss on the first attempt. That was absolutely unheard of in DS1.

But which one is the question..?? I got the upgraded Archdrake which infusing adds a nice bit to lightning but kills the dark stat, meaning I'd essentially have to abandon using the resonant souls (which I kind of have) and scraps of life (which I use from time to time). I've also got the Idol's chime but possibly not enough twink titanite to take it all the way to max yet. Decisions, decisions... Dark Souls teasing me with all these possibilities!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

Staff of Wisdom the strongest staff, but it won't fire hexes, and it upgrades with Twinkling Titanite.

Infusing your staff with magic ups the damage on it

Poise? It says the higher your poise, the less likely you are to be staggered. What exactly is staggered? Is this when your stamina is reduced to zero? Surely that happens regardless?
