Hi all thinking of doing a bit of cycling in the above area sometime in June 2013 was wondering if anyone knows of good camping/motorhome/chalet sites in the general area. Any info would be much appreciated.

    Regards
    Darren.

Small little village of less than 3000 inhabitants - I doubt much of us have experience there.
You can always look at their website : http://bourgdoisans.com/fr/hebergements-restauration/campings.
There seems to be a lot of relevant info there.
Best of luck with your cycling hols :)

We visited there last year, it's beautiful but a small town with not much happening. We stayed in various Aires de Camping Car along the way through there. It's in the middle of the Parc National des Ecrins and there are plenty of Aires, can't really tell you much else. There were loads of cyclists.

I haven't stayed in them, but I have passed a cluster of about 4 sites at the edge of the town on the lead-in to Alpe d'Huez. A couple of comments I would make :
The main road through Bourg D'Oisans is the main road linking Grenoble to Briancon and on to Italy and can be busy - and isn't that interesting on the bike anyway.
June should be ok, but in July, it can be impossible to get accommodation around Bourg d'Oisans if your planned dates coincide with the Tour de France (July 18th) or the Marmotte Cyclosportive (6th July).

Oh and if you decide to stay at the top of the Alpe itself, bear in mind that even in June, its still cold enough at night to keep their outdoor skating rink open and you may encounter some mild altitude effects after a couple of days (dehydration etc)

Its probably worth checking the cycling forum here - there's probably someone who has stayed there.

Having cycled this area a lot and done a few ETapes and Mammotes I based myself at the junction of the road to Alpe d'Huez just 200mts from Bourg as there is a car park there that cyclists use as a aire and the professionals park the buses ect when there training in the area, there is water and toilets in there in summer , also between there and Bourg there is a CAsino supermarket that has aire facility as well so no shortage , if its blistering hot just go up to Alpe d'Huez or Les Duex alps or just park anywhere you can get all wheels off the road and your ok , if you need to know more just ask
