Yes and why we are doing such great work settling arguements here today, here is one for ye.

Ya know the way everyone is saying Mullins should bring Quevega to the WH to take on BB, well why doesn't Nicholls take BB to the mares race and take on Quevega???????

That should keep ye busy for the night, I'm off to get sh!tfaced.

A true champion cannot be ground dependent lol classic :D Apologies If I call things as I see them and that offends you.

a true champion goes in any ground, thats my opinion, if you want to try ridicule my opinion you are showing your ignorance of this great sport.

Its rare a horse can perform to a similar level on good ground and heavy ground.

Well in fairness BB is as likely to sire an offspring as Quevega is

Is that the only thing stopping BB from running in the Mares hurdle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Big Bucks wouldn't be as effective over the shorter trip in the mares hurdle.....

The only bet I am willing to take for this at the moment is SDC NRNB (7/1 now). The Lexus already looks set to have the Gigginstown trio of First Lieutenant, War Amnesty and Quito De La Roque and Michael O'Leary has always made a conscious effort to keep his horses apart (prime example being First Lieutenant and Sir Des Champs at Cheltenham). Thus, I find it very hard to believe that he would run 4 in the same race. However, Willie Mullins is very reluctant to bring his Cheltenham hopefuls over to England prior to March and it certainly would be a rare occurrence if SDC did so.

The Mullins team were quick to dispel rumours that Quevega would go for the World Hurdle this season and the fact that they have yet to definitively announce his next target leads me to feel they are definitely considering the King George for SDC. I think it looks an extremely winnable race (more so than the Lexus) and I think he'd take an awful lot of beating if turning up.

Another way to look at it is you're getting 7/1 about a horse who will probably start half that price if turning up on the day and you'll get your money back if he doesn't.

Betfair seems to indicate he's definitely turning up at the KG.

I'd have all you boys over xmas the way this thread has turned out :P... 6/1 on betfair and SDC 5/1 for the Lexus... looks like he is travelling over, i'd reckon willie will announce something today..

Well considering quevega is a mare, I doubt if her balls are as big as big bucks..in the literal sense : ) but seriously that little mare owes me nothing over the last few years, lol the big bucks-quevega double was like buying money : ). And before Mr.lawlor gets on my case...I know this is a king George thread...so sorry for getting off the subject : )

One recognised top class stayer in the field on testing conditions. I'll probably play the Long Run by 10 lengths + market at this rate.

Your right Huntley, Only one winner at this stage.

If they go ahead with their plan of using 'more forceful tactics' Long Run could have them stone cold turning into the straight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭rossom

As much as I don't like Long Run and think he has regressed significantly in the past 18 months I'm struggling to find anything else to win it. Couldn't back him with stolen money though, especially with the dentist up top. Can't see how anyone could back him at 15/8 when Waley-Cohen has rode 2 winners in the past 18 months...

I actually had a little chuckle when I heard that Junior was supplemented for the KG but the more and more I think about it I think it could be a shrewd move and he could easily nick a place. No way I see him winning or as a betting proposition but I'll be interested to see how he finishes.

Grand Crus for me. Could be a bit of value at 10s.

Last chance saloon here, but he was impressive on his last appearance at Kempton. That form is solid.
2 poor runs since are a concern but I couldn't see Pipe running him here if he didn't think GC was coming with a squeek.

If conditions dont improve I will be backing that ****er too.

FYI B365 are offering 14/1 about long run winning KG and Gold Cup. If I decide to back him I will do this and then lay him for March

Not sure I can trust GC. He was bad beyond belief last two times and they dont seem to have a rashers why.

That said I think the horse on his day is amazing and back to his best he should be competitive. I lost a fair wedge on him his last two races and he buried my 300 double at Chelt after Simonsig strolled home.

Cue card is bred to stay, and the going shouldn't be a problem. Only thing is he hasn't actually ran over the 3mile distance yet. He destroyed an arguably weakish field in the haldon cup over 2m5f, but I really think there is improvement to come. As I said before, and I leave myself open, but I think long run,s best days are behind him,and as some else stated, the jockey is a big minus. Not the best of king George,s this year but I am looking forward to it.

This was only last year, that's why he'll get one more chance.
Long Run at 7/4 and GC at 10's... there's only one place my money is going at those odds.

GC is very average over fences.

I'd throw him back over hurdles and destroy the World Hurdle.

Looks like Long Run might win by default, they definitely need to force the issue though and not ride him like he has a turn of foot.

When did they start running the Haldon Gold cup over 2m5f?

I personally think Cue Card should be withdrawn, very exciting chaser but tuis trip on this ground the first time he is going 3 miles could destroy him

Lol was just thinking this, with no BB I think we will see GC, Time for Rupert, jaysus NJH might even send Pumchestowns back over hurdles, it will be like 2008 again

    .

He did beat Bobs Worth and Silviano Conti last year

SC beat Long Run this season.
Bobs Worth is the Gold Cup fav.
His form stacks up with the best of them.
His last 2 runs need serious questioning mind you, but i'll take a chance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

I haven't looked at the official figures nor Timeform but I assume Long Run is a mile clear?

Thing is he was in last season's gold cup too & also this season's Betfair chase. He may well win but I simply can't back him. On the other hand I won't back against him either. Said last year there was no way I'd back him in the Gold Cup and then got sucked in on the day at 11/4. Praying I maintain my senses this time!

Couldn't willfully back a horse that has stopped as if he was shot the last twice when seemingly traveling like a dream. And the course can't be blamed as he has good form around there.

I personally think that run in the Feltham last year might have bottomed the horse, he was out on his feet the last 100 yards. Performances like that have to leave a mark

I love Grands Crus I backed him against Big Bucks as his Cleeve performance was unreal. After his last two runs I just can't trust him.

There is something wrong and Pond House seem to be clutching at straws. They gave him a wind op after talking to a vet but any jockey worth his salt would surely have suspected his breathing was wrong. Like Richie says a mark could be left or he may have a virus but I would need to see a much better run before I could back him again.
