So is there much of a difference in cost of suppliers in the area?

I get it in deverells in portarlington in 25l drums as I pass through most days. Its 1 euro a litre.
    Is that the going rate?

It may well be the going rate per litre for a 25 litre drum. But the usual 'price' refers to a fill which is usually a 1000 litres. Since the economic collapse, delivery size has dropped. Its definitely worth pricing around as companies will have price breaks i.e different prices for 700L, 900L, etc etc. Price per litre I mean.
An example of what's going on is that Emo Oil did a leaflet drop with €10 off your next fill. The net price was however the same as Deverell's price.

Also remember that just because someone is fairly keen on price, does not mean that they will be cheap on the day you call. e.g. wholesale prices may have gone down but your guy may have silos full of 'old' oil i.e at the old price. He may have to clear that stuff at the higher 'old' price. Which he's perfectly entitled to do. Oil is a service, as its delivered; not a commodity. So its ESSENTIAL to always price around.

Anyone who tells you 'oh I wouldn't be bothered making a few phonecalls to savea tenner' is only FOLING themselves. If it takes 15 minutes to save a tenner, that equates to earning 40 net an hour. Who earns that? So how we spend our money is as important as how we earn it.

But for 25L drums, none of this is relevant. The fact that they offer that service is good enough and worth the price per litre differential.
