It's unbelievable how much Collocinni improved after that first season, isn't it? Such a good player.

You know whats funny. Every game NUFC play really i hear the same.

"player X is having his best game in years for team y"

No, newcastle are a sinch to play against....

To be fair we've played worse this season, we deserve something out of this game. Basic errors being punished everytime.

Happens to us all the time too. If ever a player needs a goal or a team haven't won in a while, Sunderland are exactly who you want to come up against.

Heskey, Akinbiyi, Ameobi, DJ Campbell, Joachim etc.

I was just saying the same thing to a mate before the game. Could pick out literally hundreds of examples down the years.

Newcastle are so dodgy at the back!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

Jonas is just gash... Waste of time going forward and a liability on the ball. Too easy to disposes and had no idea how to pass the ball further than 2 yards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,723 ✭✭✭bazual

The positives from this game, no yellow cards and nobody hobbled off injured. PROGRESS!!!

BErba, slips, is tackled twice, kicks the ball of his own player and still has the ball

Same ol Newcastle make average sides look superb. 5 losses in 6, our worst PL run ever?

Bear in mind Fulham had not won in 8.

    Relegation battle this season

    Fulham well worth their win.

    Newcastle too one dimensional.

I can honestly say for the first time this season, we deserved a point there. Why is it always the toon that breaks teams winless streaks???

haugeland, sidwell roddallega berba have been superb tonight

The two manchester clubs then Everton right?

Should be just outside the Relegation zone on Jan 1st

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭TaosHum

Frustrating. I thought the midfield were good tonight after the 1st 20 minutes, especially Anita, but there are just too many players needing to be carried in this team. Cisse is hugely out of form, Gutierrez for all his endeavor just offers noting going forward, Simpson is a liability and Williamson is average (although only playing due to injury).

Pardew's tactics also have been baffling and replacing Ben Arfa with Ameobi with 20 minutes left was way too early for the desperation stuff, especially when the midfield was controlling the middle. Marveaux for Ben Arfa would have made far more sense or even Ferguson, who would have at least offered some pace.

Worrying times, especially with the fixtures to come.

Season long nap? He was used in a position he was never played before by the clueless Shearer. Anyone could see he's not a full-back, not Al though.
I'm working off memory tbh. Your facts are incorrect.

He also played full-back versus Liverpool, Villa, Boro.

I thought he played more though aswell. Guess we're both wrong.

OK so here we go, shears lineups:

    Chelesa

    3 Steve Harper
    2 Fabricio Coloccini
    3 José Enrique
    16 Ryan Taylor
    21 Habib Beye

    4 Kevin Nolan 69'
    18 Jonas Gutiérrez
    22 Nicky Butt
    9 Obafemi Martins 80'
    10 Michael Owen
    11 Peter Løvenkrands

    Stoke

    13 Steve Harper
    12 Sébastien Bassong 39'
    16 Ryan Taylor 49'
    21 Habib Beye
    30 David Edgar

    4 Kevin Nolan
    8 Danny Guthrie 63'
    11 Damien Duff
    22 Nicky Butt
    10 Michael Owen
    23 Shola Ameobi

    tottenham

    3 Steve Harper
    12 Sébastien Bassong
    16 Ryan Taylor 78'
    21 Habib Beye
    27 Steven Taylor 46'

    4 Kevin Nolan 62'
    11 Damien Duff
    18 Jonas Gutiérrez 77'
    22 Nicky Butt
    10 Michael Owen
    39 Andy Carroll

    Portsmouth

    13 Steve Harper
    2 Fabricio Coloccini
    3 José Enrique 28'
    12 Sébastien Bassong 20'
    21 Habib Beye

    11 Damien Duff
    22 Nicky Butt 71'
    9 Obafemi Martins
    10 Michael Owen
    17 Alan Smith
    36 Mark Viduka

    Liverpool

im pretty sure this one was 3:5:2, will try to find proof

    13 Steve Harper
    2 Fabricio Coloccini 83'
    12 Sébastien Bassong
    21 Habib Beye

    7 Joey Barton 78'
    11 Damien Duff
    22 Nicky Butt
    9 Obafemi Martins 80'
    11 Peter Løvenkrands 46'
    17 Alan Smith 63'
    36 Mark Viduka

    Boro

    13 Steve Harper
    12 Sébastien Bassong
    21 Habib Beye
    27 Steven Taylor

    4 Kevin Nolan 85'
    8 Danny Guthrie
    11 Damien Duff 81'
    18 Jonas Gutiérrez 65'
    22 Nicky Butt 31'
    10 Michael Owen 69'
    36 Mark Viduka

    Fulham

    13 Steve Harper
    12 Sébastien Bassong 60'
    21 Habib Beye
    27 Steven Taylo
    r
    4 Kevin Nolan
    8 Danny Guthrie 62'
    11 Damien Duff
    18 Jonas Gutiérrez 76'
    22 Nicky Butt
    9 Obafemi Martins
    36 Mark Viduka

    Villa

    3 Steve Harper
    2 Fabricio Coloccini
    27 Steven Taylor 35'
    30 David Edgar 90'

    4 Kevin Nolan 67'
    8 Danny Guthrie
    11 Damien Duff
    22 Nicky Butt
    9 Obafemi Martins
    11 Peter Løvenkrands 57'
    36 Mark Viduka

So shearer was forced to play duff at LB when there were absolutely no players available. TO say he was clueless (with that anyway) is completely wrong. Even David Edgar started ahead of him in that position

Yup, looks like he played 3 and maybe 4 games at the end of the season at LB

In the other 24 games he played (not under AS) he also majorly under-performed and generally looked disinterested.

In fact, he provided the same amount of assists tonight as in 68 games for NUFC... linky

    Fulham well worth their win.

    Newcastle too one dimensional.

You must have been watching last seasons game.

Fulham offered very little tonight, and were helped to victory by an owngoal and a setpiece.
NUFC dominated the game from the half mark right until the end of the game.

Still unsure how we didn't get something out of that, just one of those nights I suppose.
Some very encouraging football on show from us imo.

I think the performances from Tiote, Jonas, Cisse, Williamson and Simpson were far too poor to claim any positives from that

Pardew - "We've played some of our best attacking football of the season and come away with nothing. Performances get you nothing."

"It's really a soft second goal, and you can't do that at this level. I'm disappointed. No one to blame but ourselves."

Ah Doocey we never really dominated at all. were fulham really ever under any pressure? we did have decent possession in good positions but either guti/cisse gave it away or simpson attempted another miserable cross, a collo effort from the edge of the box was our only real effort in the second half, fulham could/should have scored more sidwell missed a good chance in the second half and berbatov clean thru in the first,. although we played decent stuff at times. but to bring benny off at that point in the game was senseless he was really starting to get at them and the midfield was performing really well

He has been alright, but.... How many crosses were headed away by the first man? Also got caught for a coupe of breaks by Fulham. He was no the worst by a long shot but poor none the less

Replacing him with Ameobi and not Marveaux was the problem.

Simpson cannot cross a ball for sh1t.

Simpson cannot cross a ball for sh1t.

but in his defence he can defend pretty well, believe it or not i think i read somewhere he was statistically the best rb in the league last season!

    He's an average defender.

But as a full back in the modern game, you have to offer more going forward.

He is completely useless in that respect.

I hope we sell him and buy Debuchy in January.

I agree with that, but isnt the main priority to defend, im not his number 1 fan but he does a job defencivly, look at santon i think hes great and gonna be top class, he is good goin forward and ok at the back so i will have him. with beny in front of simmo, he has to be more defensive minded as benny wont offer him the support like guti did to santon last year. do ya know what am sayin pal?

Jonas needs to be "rested" for a game or 2
    Offers us nothing

Gotta say that the best player on show tonight for me was Coloccini. Its not that often that you would pick a defender from losing side as MoM.

Both Sunderland and Newcastle struggling big time this year. Both clubs really don't deserve the support they get.

Clearly I and Alan Pardew viewed the game in a different light to you both!

I hope we can all agree that Mike Williamson is the biggest liability in the side at the minute. Absolutely terrible in recent games.

He just frustrates the life out of me when he tries to do anything productive with the ball. I wouldn't be sorry to see him leave.

If he was a top class defender, he could be forgiven for not being able to do anything else, but he's average at best. As you said, he "does a job" in defence.

    This is abysmal:

    A9yOZwqCIAEBks-.png:large

We have far more pressing issues than RB at the moment though.

We are changing formations 3 or 4 times a game, with players being played out of position and we look completely disorganised. We did start to play some decent football there in the 2nd half for about 20 minutes and then the formation and tactics were changed again when Ben Arfa came off.

but that pic shows very little about simpson(benny was on the right from around 30 mins+) it shows that our crosses from the right were rubbish, if you look at their first goal it came from a defensivly weak left side. and i agree totally rb is certainly not our main priortity this transfer window a guti replacement and a centre half are way more important
