How much surfing has he done? No point buying one if he's a beginner.

without understanding fully what the situation is regarding his experience etc, i would never buy a board for someone else or want someone to pick a board for me. as you'll see from this forum a lot goes into choosing ones board and you could even say a lot is learned in the process of getting the right board. Not just about surfboard but about your own surfing and where you're going.

With that in mind, perhaps it would be more prudent to buy a voucher for a good surf shop with lots of selection and a good repuation.

with your budget, i can't see you getting a custom from a decent shaper but could be wrong. my custom shortboard was good bit more than that but was well worth it. off the shelf if you root around at the higher end of your budget

if the lad hasn't surfed before, a 6,2 15 stone man is not going to go well learning on a shortboard so i'd avoid that

    As regards experience
    3+ years

I am trying to explain this to my Friend, but all he wants is a recommendation of a board height, shape and style

I mean he can always take it back and change it if he is not happy with it.

    thanks

A stab in the dark at a 6'10 with lots of volume. Probably better off on 7'10.

Get him to contact a shaper and maybe get something custom made. You'd probably struggle to get a custom board for €350 however but its worth it.

What does he currently surf and what level is he at

For the money your planning on spending the options are

A new plastic fantastic not an ideal option unless he wants a bic
A good second hand board, plenty of quality boards out there at that price
    A new wetsuit
    Surf Lessons
    A surf holiday
    A go pro

Worth looking at all options, he may not need a new board
