Just wondering how to get into this, on a part time basis.

I do not have the height of a model and not looking to go professional and male a portfolio, just a way to spend my spare time & earn a few pound.

    Anybody any tips?

I honestly havent seen much demand for nude photography around this forum. Im sure there is plenty, just doesnt seem to get much of a mention around here.

Maybe a still life drawing class could be a good starting point?

You might want to look at getting some kind of portfolio or basic webpage done too. Im sure theres plenty of photographers out there may could have work for you but much like any form of modelling they need to know how to find you, see your previous work etc. Put yourself in the position of a photographer looking for a model, where would you look?

There was a post up here a few months back. Honestly cant think of who posted it (sorry no help I know) but it was for a UK based model who was travelling over here for a short while and was looking for any work. If I remember correctly she specialised in nude work too. She had a fantastic portfolio, very tastefully done. I cant remember there being much response though but that could have been due to the short notice of the post.

Anyway if you dont want to go to any of that trouble maybe the drawing class idea might be an easier route.

Signing up to likes of www.modelmayhem.com, www.folio32.com might be a start. Make sure you make it clear Paid Assignments Only, or you'll get endless offers of TFP (free work)!

If you dont have a good portfolio you may want to consider working with some good pros who will not expect to be charged but will give you some fantastic images and help in return for your time.

I think I am going to put a small portfolio together. But that's a great idea, wonder where I could find a photographer who would do that...

I might be able to help you out there. I'd recommend Model Mayhem too.

Yeah that's the problem with Model Mayhem, its difficult when you're starting off. Although some young models put up snap shots of themselves just to get the ball rolling.

Where abouts are you from? I've done some glamour and nude photography in Dublin. I may be able to help you get started. Send me a pm if you want.

Are you looking to get into this as a career or just for some extra cash? If you have the figure for it then you could probably do promo work at shows without getting naked. They don't really have a height requirement for models.

Unless you really want to get naked for a camera though. :D

im afraid i wont make a career out of it as im 36, but still holding all the important parts together :-). I like to do some nude modelling, i got absoloutely no issue about that, i find it interesting. Some art classes would be great

The same advice applies, get a portfolio together, or at least a profile on model mayhem for photographers to find you.

will do, i think i will go around the colleges and art centres personally anyway to get my face out there, there is nothing better than get into the door. I thought someone would have contact or tips where to go. Website is grand, but i'll be swollowed with the volume of girls in there

How about approaching some camera clubs?

I cant really see any situation where they're not going to ask to see some of your previous work. A face to face meeting really isnt the same.

Ive shot plenty of girls who didnt initially stand out at me as "stunning" but who photograph so well. It sounds tacky but some people really do come alive when you put them in front of a camera.

Likewise a friend recently showed me some portfolio pics she had got done and they looked terrible. Shes a very good looking girl but her shots did her no justice whatsoever.

What Im saying in a long winded way....dont underestimate how important it is to get some good portfolio shots.

i see your point, i do have some pics, but not many, i will have to get more the looks of it. @ Ben - do you get any work from it???

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 Lenkair

....but i also think i dont need massive portfolio for life drawings

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 885 ✭✭✭Splinters

I would imagine you're right there. Saying that Im a photographer not an artist (well I am, but you know what I mean) so I wouldnt have too much insight into still life modelling.

I do my fair share of nude work (nothing overly 'artistic' mind, usually fairly straight-forward portraits that people want done).

Don't quite understand how ModelMayhem is supposed to benefit models to be honest (placing models that charge pro rates right next to girls eager to model for free doesn't quite make sense to me, personally). Same can be said for photographers, make-up artists, etc. too, I suppose, though..?

If you're looking to get into nude modelling though, I'd be happy to help you whip up a quick portfolio. I'm working on a little personal project at the moment that requires a bit of nudity (though it's not entirely nude-based) and would be quite diverse with regards to posing. Have some girls (and men) lined up but want to get a couple more people. The photos aren't going to be anything spectacular (simple plain-background stuff) but what I'm doing would definitely work for a portfolio.

Up to yourself, of course. Message me if you're interested (though I'm looking to get it over and done sooner rather than later, if I'm honest. Want to have it wrapped up and done with before the New Year, so it might not suit you at all).

I think it benefits them greatly. Young models who are starting out can use it to build their portfolio, and the more experienced (or nude models) can make money from it. Although it annoys me when some models demand 'Paid assignments only' when they clearly have little or no experience. That said, I have met some great models from it over the last couple of years.

Above all else, be safe and smart. As with all types of modelling, art nude modelling brings along additional concerns to be wary of.
