Sure if I was getting that kinda money for 80 mins I'd be back too. ;-)

    How much did he get?

In fairness his set has always been about that long so for the people complaining about him not being on stage long enough, go do your research before you buy his concert ticket and he isn't Bruce Springsteen every artist is different.

I also witnessed a girl taking a piss right beside me..half an hour later she was up sitting on some lad's shoulders! Classy burd :P

I have to say I had a fantastic day. The boyfriend and I drove up. We were stuck in traffic for about half an hour getting to the carpark, but once we were out of the car it was a short stroll to the concert.
Had to go through 2 or 3 checkpoints to get in - no problem with that, it was expected.
Thought the concert was fantastic. The boyfriend and I were pretty close to the front - about 10m from the back barrier of the pit. Thought Eminem was great, though his set was a but short.
We started to leave at the encore because we didn't want to be held up for ages. We reached the exit just as he was finishing up, 10min walk back to the car where we watched the fireworks. We were on the road at 11 o'clock and didn't meet any traffic. Made brilliant time home and were in a chipper in Longford town at 12.30! Gave our friends a call to find that they had only just made it back to their bus!!

I'm actually sick I decided not to go as I've watched a few videos and Eminem seemed to be brilliant. I live 7 miles from Slane and usually always go. Best venue in the country no doubt about that and I've been to most. Wonder who will play next year? Would love to see Daft Punk.

Yes cringe to wear a snapback. Do people think they're in a gang or something? If I go to a kings of leon concert I don't go looking like a bum. If I go to a U2 concert I don't go wearing shades.

Some people like them though and find them fashionable?

Worst I saw was a couple of "stans" with dyed hair, I find that kinda weird.

why would you think you're in a gang by wearing a snapback ? are you a psychologist or something that you have inside info on the human mind ?

I think they're fashionable. But these people wouldn't be seen with one unless they were at a hip hop concert.

so are you saying these are "normal people" that think they are in a gang because they stick a cap on inside the gates of a hip hop concert ?

The concert itself was good but will never go to slane again due to the piss poor organisation of buses and pig ignorant gardai , concert finished at 10.30 and didn't get on the bus until 1.45 which after 4 hours standing up was torture

Were you on a private bus? Our group got the Dublin bus shuttle. It was very well organised. Barriers in place which allowed 6 or 7 buses to pull up and be loaded at once, left after the fireworks, walked to bus and we were back in Dublin by 12.45.

This was my 1st trek to Slane so I didn't know what to expect, the concert was amazing the only downside to the night was leaving the car park took 1:45 with 1:20 of that sitting still bumper to bumper, It took them a while to get a bit of traffic management in place to let the cars flow.

I got to the venue grand and early and manged to get a pit pass so I was happy out, despite the "no queuing" rule people were in the queue at 10 when I arrived, I was also told some people had slept there overnight which was crazy. The biggest downside to the night? I think I bricked my phone from the awful shower of rain we got which means I lost most of my pictures :'(

Anyway here's what I thought of the acts and what not:
    • Chance the Rapper - Chance did a pretty good job considering most of the crowd had no clue who he was, despite this he worked he crown really well and tried to get them into it, I really enjoyed his set..
    • Slaughterhouse -These guys blew my mind, I had listened to some of their stuff before I left the house but didn't have time to really get into it, but after last night I walked away a huge fan, the interaction with the crowd and ability to get every one buzzed was amazing.
    • Yelawolf - This guy has some crazy stage presence although I felt he dragged on a little at the end, I thought it was awesome when he jumped off stage and ran along the front row, I've always loved an artist who isn't afraid to get up close with their fans..
    • Earlwolf - Tyler, Earl and Jasper blew me away, Just like with Slaughterhouse I walked away a fan, their crowd interaction was awesome, Tyler was funny as ****..
    • Plan B - This guy seemed to come on stage feeling like he was gonna hook every one but I found his set very dry, I couldn't get into it bar the few songs I knew. Does anyone have any idea why he was masturbating the microphone?
    • Eminem - Em was awesome, his set list was similar to that of Oxegen 2010 with a few new tracks thrown, I agree with some of the remarks that his microphone should have been a little louder, I kind of love and hate when he does the "half song" thing because it gets the crowd going in one way but in others you're sitting there wishing he had done the entire track. Despite this being my 3rd time to see him live he still sent chills down my spine, absolutely amazing artist!
    • The Security was really good they kept things flowing pretty well when the gates opened, Only dodgy ones I saw were two plebs in front of the stage who stared blankly into the crowd for the night, On two different occasions we had to scream for near 30+ seconds to get their attention to remove people who were passed out/out of it from the crowd, and even then they seemed to have the strength of a 10 year old. Does anyone know what the deal is with security trying to prevent people taking pictures when Eminem was on?
    • The Gardai were everywhere which was nice to see, It made the place feel secure the only I just wish there was better traffic management for exiting, All they need is 2 officers near the car park exits to stop 5 lanes of cars pushing for 1 exit, but at the end of the day traffic will always be hell exiting a place like this.
    • The Crowd were pretty cool, I only seen a small amount of dodgy looking characters but everyone was polite other than that, I seen a fight break out in the pit and the usual bitching between concert goers when someone tries to push through because "their brother/mother/personal god is in front of you, that's to be expected though..

Glad to hear that there was no major hassle(crowd wise) and glad people enjoyed themselves . Although imoid be a bit annoyed he only played 70/80 mins imo , surely the fact he has a massive back catalogue he would have no problem going for longer .

Next time save your money and go see The Boss ;);):p

I'd just like to mention the fact that I arrived to slane at 7am (2 hours later than planned because the bus didn't show ffs) and there was already a queue of around 40 people - so much for everyone on this telling me i was crazy and that i'd 'get front row if i went at 12' ;)

I did get front row though, it was absolutely mental, after security they started escorting us to the field and then everyone turned into Usain Bolts running down to the pit. Saw a few people falling flat on their faces and sliding down the path, ouch... They didn't seem that strict about security though, they just did a standard bag/body search on us, no dogs or anything & a few people were smoking grass in the queue and in the pit despite the amount of guards lol.

Saw someone write that Chance had no stage presence, I think you meant Plan B? He just came out expecting everyone to go crazy, but he didn't do anything to hype the crowd up and then he got pissed and started throwing a tantrum haha. The rest of the support were unreal though, especially yelawolf. I'm a big fan of the others but i could never get into yela, after the show he put on yesterday i think i've had a change of heart though :P

Everyone's complaining about eminem's set being short but do remember he played 28 songs & his sets are usually only 80-90 minutes anyway. And it's understandable that he didn't mention cancelling in 2005, it wasn't just slane he cancelled, it was the rest of the European leg and it was to go into rehab - not something anyone would like to casually chat about...

Anyway, it was the best night of my life (along with seeing him at tennent's vital), at vital he spoke to me and this time i made a heart with my hands at him and he did one back at me <3 sooo depressed now that it's over, roll on round 3 lol

100 euro for 3 hours entertainment isn't as good value as 7 hours entertainment for 80 euro.

Really don't see how you can associate wearing a snapback cap with being in a gang. I wear a snapback cap all the time, I don't think I'm in a gang or cool for doing so. I wear it because I like how it keeps the sun out of my eyes, rain off my head, aswell as the fact that it looks good. If I wanted to think I was in a gang I'd get some gang tats or you know, emigrate to another country and join an actual gang.

From what it seems, security was poorly organised and only came together later in the day. I was waiting in line outside Slane at around 11 and was patted down twice only. Before the second one all the security were discussing what to do and it seemed unorganised. One lad I was talking to about ten minutes after quickly offered me an E Tablet. He managed to sneak them in and there was a smell of weed in the pit, hence why I say a few joints or something would be easily smuggled.

Other than that I saw no violence in excess, other than one bitch fight which the girls boyfriends prevented. Nobody even seemed too drunk to be able to function which was strange.

The acts were great too, I felt bad for Chance because he only had a small fan base there but he embraced it well and got on with it. Loved when he performed All Falls Down too.
Earlwolf set was also great, they brought humour to the stage and interacted with the crowd really well, you can always rely on Tyler to out on a great show-love him or hate him.
Yelawolf was also reeeeally good, if anything I would've swapped his place with Plan B because Yelawolf managed to hype everyone up and Plan B didn't work.
Eminems set, while admittedly short, was amazing. I loved how he went from song to song without a break.

I seen a post there about the garda being unfriendly... I have to disagree - most of them were up for the crack with us, posing in photos and putting two of the girls on their shoulders. The security on the way in were pretty cool too until we got to where the tickets were scanned. After that most of them were grumpy ass holes ( particularly the guy with the loud speaker at the bar)

In reply to the person that asked why I said "What an amazing venue!!" I say that because when you walk in the entrance you are greeted with the castle up top looking down on the stage, lights going all over the place, not to mention about 20,000 people at that stage in the day and it was my first time in Slane.

Last time I said "WOW" about a venue was my first time in Old Trafford 15 years ago. Next time I go to Slane I would stay a bit further back than I was for a better view, still had a blast though.

On the topic of Dublin Bus, I thought they were fantastic, yeah it was a brutal walk but they had 9 lanes I think and waiting time once we got there was about 5mins. Back in Dublin by 1.30am and we were nowhere near the 1st ones out.

Crowd were grand, only saw the one fight and only got offered 1 "yolk". Met loads of people just up for a laugh and the craic. Like I said before, I will definitely be back to Slane again.

Yelawolf should have been main support but sh!t happens, had never heard his stuff before the gig but I couldn't help dancing along and he was rapping so fast it was amazing. Oh yeah, Eminem was awesome too.

I also want to mention Dillon from Bray who was about 27 or 28 and he kept us entertained on the bus to Dublin when everyone was wrecked tired, the entire top deck was laughing all the way down which included a game of charades!! On the off chance he sees this Thanks Dillon, from the very tired Kerry lads and girls :)

63 arrests yesterday. 83,500 in attendance so that's 0.08% of the capacity. Gardai say that figure is very much in line with events of this size. Article also shows the impressive looking Garda contol centre at the gig.

I imagine that the queue for the buses had to be long because you need to spread 80,000 people along it. If you were allowed come out the way you went in, people would be pushed through the barriers into the Boyne. I didn't mind the walk back although this was my third slane concert so I expected it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 306 ✭✭fta93

On topic of the walk, don't wanna be gloating, but we got from quite close to the front to Dublin Bus in spot 6 within 35mins, and back in Drumcondra by 00.15 or so, and that was after the gig had ended. So good operation from them.

Heard horror stories from a big group from my area who rented a private bus and didn't get back to Dublin til 4.

Great gig, one gripe was Plan B. Thought he structured his set badly, ended on a fairly anti-climatic note.

Seen one bloke flat out right after getting off bus at 4, but besides that seen no trouble or people overdoing it.

Oh dear god, where to start?
You/Any folks who go to a concert wear what they want as in normal life.
    In a gang?? WTF :D

Was at the concert too, thought Eminem was excellent myself, I knew he wouldnt be playing for 2 hours + but was hoping he would have played for a bit longer.
The walk back to the bus was a nightmare, took us the bones of 2 hours. Must have been a good 6 or 7 miles!
I was at Bon Jovi as well but drove up myself, got a bus this time thinking it would be more convenient but never again would i get a bus up!
Was happy to see the amount of security and guardai that was there. We were searched 5 times and once was with the metal detector wands. Only saw two bits of trouble, once inside - group of girls fighting, the second was on the walk from the green exit towards Slane village, two lads throwing a few punches and a bloody nose was the end of it.
