    Is there a way of logging out (setting or keystroke) and remaining on the same page/forum instead of returning to the home page?

    Middle click the log-out link so it opens in a new tab.

    (or RC > open new tab / hold the link / whatever works in your browser or device)

    I can't think of a simpler solution than what Steve's posted.

    Technically, it could be done, but it'd be a bit fiddly and won't be any kind of priority for the tech team, so it's unlikely to change.
