Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is there any way of getting notification settings on a lock screen like they used to be? Without the preview but with the icon in the top corner? Or even to change the notifications you can see on the screen to only messages?

Is anyone else having problems with videos? Nothing plays for me, Youtube, facebook videos or anything in the browser. Sometimes the sound plays but no picture.

Yeah mine won't play videos at all since the lollipop upgrade. I assume they know about it and we'll get a fix soon. I hope.

Mine is working again, I went into developer options and disabled nuPlayer and rebooted. The YouTube app and Facebook videos work now.

The only problem I have now is that videos I click on in chrome open in a new tab on m.YouTube.com instead of the YouTube app.

I have flashed back to KitKat. Was having the "mobile radio active " battery drain (not an easy one to google. I may now be marked as some budding terrorist, looking in to a transportable nuclear device)
Anyway, on the battery stats, chrome was using up huge amounts of the battery (40-50%), having only used it for minutes. When I clicked on it, mobile radio showed itself to have been active for hours. This is true for others apps also. Don't know if it is a reporting thing or some issue where the radio turned on and left on by apps (mobile radio activity is not reported in KitKat stats, as far as I can see, but could be wrong). Also, the phone was getting quite hot when used for more than a few minutes, especially when browsing recently, even before lollipop update. Thought it was the battery on the way out, hence the new batt.
So that's why i flashed stock KitKat. Battery lasting a statisfing 16+ hours now (did get a new battery last week, but with lollipop , was only getting 7-8 hrs) .
Anyway, seems that others have gotten same thing . I flashed lollipop originally from the aosp image. Will now try the ota upgrade in a few days to see if that makes any difference.
Having played with lollipop for the week+ , thought it was OK. Not that mad about the notifications on the lock screen, (too easy for others to view, access) and also prefer kitkats pull down bar/ two finger settings access. So no rush back.
Just thought I'd share, in case others are having odd battery usage stats.

I recently flashed the lollipop factory image & have noticed since that Skype will not connect over wifi, only 3G. I've removed & redownloaded the app but it makes no difference. I can see my profile as connected over 3G but once I connect to wifi it immediately changes to invisible.
Has anyone had Skype issues on lollipop or is it my own settings causing a problem. Thanks

When I broke mine I ordered a screen and fixing kit on line and then watched a vid on YouTube how to fix it, its not too tricky.

I couldn't get online on it on Sunday.

I uninstalled and reinstalled again. It works perfectly now.

I've tried a few times installing & uninstalling but still have issues. Over wifi, my status is always invisible & cannot be changed though I can make calls. Once I turn off wifi & go to 3G my profile switches straight away to available. Strange!

Hmm, phone turned itself off this evening. Didn't see it happening as such. Was on the bus, used about 8MB of data. Turned off the data and put the phone in my breast coat pocket. Took it back out and the phone was off. Was at about 85% battery before this. Is there some way of checking what happened, say in a system log, or something like that? Hopefully just a once off glitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 242 ✭✭HellboundIRL

Does flashing a system image void your warranty?

I got a replacement Nexus 4 tonight and it had 4.2.2 on it so I set about flashing the Lollipop system image but it got stuck on the loading screen. I flashed it again and again but still stuck. I have tried Kitkat and Jellybean since then but no go.

Edit: Fixed it, cleared the cache...should have tried that first :o

Anyone else having problems when they go into settings?

Specifically into Wi-Fi? Mine hangs 90% of the time and eventually "settings" crashes. Incredibly annoying.

In general, this is by far the worst Android update.

Did you flash the factory image or was it an ota update ? If so , have you tried a factory reset (back up your valuabes first)

I'm not sure if it's just the fact that I got a OnePlus One the same day, but ever since I've upgraded to Lollipop OTA the phone has seemed very, very sluggish. Google Search app randomly crashing (even when not in use) as well.
I really like the lollipop features and visual style, but it's really running like a dog on my older devices. (Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2012.) To be fair the N7 was performing badly well before the update, but the N4 was perfect.

This has happened me a few times too.
I had it happen to me once or twice before Lollipop but since I upgraded it's happened a couple of times in a couple of weeks, so it's got worse.

No idea what's causing it. You could try looking in Logcat for errors.
I believe there are apps you can install to view logcat logs or you can use adb. A quick Google brought up this guide on how to access the logcat logs http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238

Recently dropped my phone . Couldn't believe when i saw a crack as it was only from the height of the couch. The glass doesnt seem to be that strong at all. It the second one i've broke this year. Dont fancy forking out another €110 to get it fixed from a shop. Can anyone recommend a seller on ebay as i plan to give it a go myself this time round.

Have you tried removing your google account from the phone, and then re-adding it?
This happened to me a few weeks ago and that was my only solution.

Just tried these. Removed account, uninstalled playstore, clear play services data, rebooted phone. Added account, Reinstalled playstore (5.1.11 if thats any help) it opened and I've 14 apps needing updated but won't update. I stopped the update and tried updating one but it crashes as soon as I accept app privileges with Google Play Stores has stopped working error. Also same when I remove my account and re add it, as soon as it's added the error appears.

I'm guessing my only fix for this is a reset of the phone :(

5.01 OTA last night, it was only around 17MB so I doubt there's anything significant in it.

Anyone else having problems installing the 5.0.1 update? My wife's phone just comes up with an error screen during installation. The phone then rolls back the update and after a while it attempts to install it again with the same results?

Try putting it on airplane mode. That cools mine down in no length.

It shouldn't be overheating in winter really unless you're using a ton of apps.

Mine's been randomly turning off since the lollipop update. Either turning off, or the screen just doesn't turn on. I have to press/hold the power button repeatedly for about 30 seconds until it starts up again.

Started happening to mine also since I updated to 5.0.1 (did a fresh install). Some apps seem to force close every now and again too which was never happening before. Hopefully 5.0.2 will be on the way shortly!

This started a few months ago to mine with kitkat & it's the same on 5.0 & 5.01, though it's not shutting down as frequently as kitkat.

It used to happen to me as well on KitKat. I decided to get rid of the official Facebook and Twitter apps (nothing to do with the shutdowns, I just found nicer alternatives and made a bit of space on the phone) and since deleting them it hasn't happened at all.

I don't have either app, unfortunately. Would happily get rid of them! :p

Did the 5.01 update last night and its still a bit of a disaster. This must be the worst Android update by far.

Lock screen not working with ‘swipe to unlock’
SIM lock pin code entry on reboot is only half working (if I don’t catch it straight after reboot then the option of entering the code for SIM card disappears)
Phone is getting very hot with minimal usage
    Video playback is still iffy
Losing of WiFi connectivity for no apparent reason
When a call comes in screen turns on for 10-12 seconds and then turns off again meaning I have to use power button to activate screen and accept call
Screen will not turn on after removing from ear during call (proximity sensor issue I presume)

There are probably more issues but I won’t see them until I use the phone a bit more over the next few days

In general the design and layout of Lollipop is all a bit meh. I really am not a fan of what they have done with pastel colours and some of the design changes (no silent mode, dialler is shocking, no notifications scroll across top of screen etc etc) I am even thinking of jumping ship on Stock Android and going down the custom ROM route or somehow getting myself back to 4.4.4

Did a factory reset when going from 4.4.4 to 5.0. Made no difference then so I might do a full restore from factory images.
Not sure how hard it is to do that but will try.

It's v easy, you just need unlock the bootloader which will wipe. Leave the bootloader unlocked will make it easier if you want to root. When done boot to recovery and clear the cache. Google for instructions

Installed Whatsapp for the first time. Simultaneously I received a Viber message and my phone went into some sort of weird loop - flashing/flickering between Viber, WhatsApp and the lock screen. Seemed a bit mad, but righted itself after about 25 seconds.

This may have been asked but how hot is too hot for the battery? I have an app that tells me the temperature and I usually turn on flight mode at about 37/38° to let it cool down.

Am I being overprotective? Can it withstand higher temperatures? Any long-term effects?

Was getting a lot of battery drain on lollipop. phone would get very hot if i used any kind of data connection (browsing, email etc) on 3g (no as much on wifi). tried fresh install, factory reset, back to 4.4.4 the ota update. still massive battery drain.
Have now installed the LiquidSmooth rom , and the battery life is much much better. its based on kitkat, but am very happy with it compared to stock. There are several lollipop based roms which may solve issues above.
